Rebecca Palmer, Audit Director, KPMG Cayman Islands
Rebecca is an Audit Director at KPMG in the Cayman Islands. She has over 14 years of experience gained in London, New York and the Cayman Islands. Her primary responsibilities encompass the provision of audit services to a comprehensive variety of investment vehicles such as hedge funds, structured products and private equity funds. She has a wide range of experience in dealing with many different kinds of fund structures and a variety of the hedge fund strategies.
She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations, a BA in Politics and International Relations, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales and recently completed Oxford University’s SAID Business School’s Women in Leadership program. She is also a member of the 100 women in finance education committee in the Cayman Islands.
Rebecca loves to travel and has visited over 80 countries. Prior to becoming a chartered accountant, Rebecca spent a year working in Japan as an Assistant Language teacher and also volunteered in Thailand working with Burmese refugee children. Her proudest achievement is organising 2 charitable treks to Ethiopia, raising over $100,000 to build a medical centre. She was also part of the support team for the successful world record attempt to play cricket on Everest.
Rebecca is a mum of 3 girls, 3 year old twins and a 5 year old.
Isabelle is a consultant, trainer and coach for CABA. As a qualified chartered accountant who has worked in demanding financial roles for more than 10 years, she also understands the kind of rewards and frustrations accountants meet in their day to day work. So she’s well placed to deliver practical and effective wellbeing training courses for CABA. Her grass roots accountancy experience is complemented by a qualification in psycho-dynamic therapy and an accreditation as a Myers Briggs Type Indicator practitioner. Isabelle has a strong interest in psychology and the tools it provides to build effective relationships and improve working practices at all levels in business.
Kirstin Gillon, Technical Manager, ICAEW IT Faculty
Kirstin leads ICAEW’s thought leadership programme on IT. In this role, she researches how technology trends such as big data, AI and cyber security are influencing business and the accountancy profession. She produces a wide range of content on these themes, liaises with the academic and policy community on technology issues and organises topical discussion-based events. Recent publications include Artificial intelligence and the future of accountancy, Big data and analytics: what’s new? and Big data in Chinese businesses: the role of accountants (forthcoming). She joined ICAEW from PwC’s IT consultancy practice and previously worked at IBM as a project manager and business analyst.
Adrian leads Burges Salmon’s cross-departmental fintech and regulated lending practices and is a senior associate in the firm's funds and financial regulation team.
Adrian has experience advising financial institutions, high net worth individuals, start-ups and major private and public companies in relation to regulation in the following main areas:
Adrian qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2009 and is an alumnus of the University of Bristol and University of West England.
Adrian is heavily engaged with the fintech sector. He is a mentor on the Barclays Techstars Accelerator and together with the Burges Salmon fintech practice has been assisting the FCA with its regtech call for input and engaging with R3 CEV and stakeholders on smart contract templates.
Rick Payne, Finance Direction Program, ICAEW
Rick Payne is ICAEW’s expert on building effective finance functions and the role of the Chief Financial Officer. He qualified with KPMG and having worked as a divisional CFO in the financial services industry he now draws on his experience to lead ICAEW’s Finance Direction programme. The programme aims to help finance professionals contribute to organisational success. Rick authored ICAEW’s report ‘Finance business partnering: a guide’ which pulls together views from members and research by academics and consultants. He is currently researching a report on the CFOs role in strategy.
Rick is a qualified trainer and executive coach and has an MSc (with distinction) in Organisational Behaviour from Birkbeck College, University of London. He presents regularly to audiences of finance professionals and academics in the UK and internationally.
Anthony is a Partner with KPMG’s Asset Management Practice where his portfolio of clients includes fund of funds, private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds and commodity pools. His experience in the area of capital markets involves a wide variety of financial derivative products and complex investment vehicles. He is the Global Lead Engagement Partner on the audit of several multi-billion dollar investment management firms which focuses on non-traditional fixed income based strategies (such as high-yield bonds, leveraged loans, ABS, CDS and structured credit investments) and also several independent global private equity funds, funds of funds and hedge funds.
Anthony is a member of KPMG’s Global Alternative Investments Leadership Team and KPMG’s European Council for Investment Management. In his role as Head Alternative Investments and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility for KPMG in the Cayman Islands, his responsibilities include strategic planning, thought leadership and business development. Anthony was on the Editorial Board for KPMG’s Global Thought Leadership ‘Renewing the Promise’ in 2009 and in 2010 was the principal author of KPMG’s Global Thought Leadership report entitled “Transformation: The Future of Alternative Investments”.
Anthony co-authored KPMG’s two part global thought leadership report in conjunction with AIMA. The first of these was the report “The value of the hedge fund industry to investors, markets, and the broader economy” which was then followed by a global hedge fund survey entitled “The evolution of an industry”.
Anthony is a Chartered Accountant and holds a BSc (Hons) in Management Sciences from Warwick University, England. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW), the Alternative Investment Management Association Limited (AIMA) for which he served on their Research Committee and the Cayman Islands Society of Professional Accountants. In addition to his professional responsibilities, Anthony is actively involved in the community, both locally and internationally, and is a Rotarian.
Andrew is an Audit Partner with RSM UK based in their London office. He has over 14 years’ experience working predominantly in the Consumer Markets sector.
In his role he looks after a wide range of high-profile clients and has experience of listed, private equity and rapidly growing businesses operating in both the UK and overseas.
Andrew is one the firms leaders on consumer facing businesses with a focus on retail, leisure & hospitality and travel. Through this role he is responsible for the coordination of RSMs Consumer Markets Group nationally and for the delivery of thought leadership and technical insight pieces to RSM clients and contacts.
Andrew holds a Masters degree in Chemistry and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales.
