John Gaskell, Head of Personal Financial Planning, ICAEWJohn Gaskell is Head of Personal Financial Planning ( PFP). He oversees the ICAEW PFP Community and ICAEW’s Personal Financial Planning Advisory Group. His role involves liaising with the Financial Conduct Authority ( FCA) and other regulators, working across different areas of ICAEW and with external stakeholders.John began his career as a private client stockbroker & investment manager in the City of London before working as an independent financial adviser for a national IFA, financial planning adviser at a regional ICAEW firm, head of personal financial planning at a legal practice, senior manager at Deloitte Wealth Management Ltd, and product development manager at Aviva. He has also held business development, staff training and consultancy roles.John chaired the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments Private Client Examination Panel and represents ICAEW at the Global Accounting Alliance (GAA) PFP Expert Working Party, and was a member of the FSA examination standards working party. John has a BA in Economic History & Social Science, and an MBA. He is a Certified Financial Planner, Chartered Wealth Manager and Fellow of the Certified Public Accountants Association.
Lucian Cook, Director, Residential Research, SavillsLucian is one of the country’s most respected housing market commentators, having been a director in the Savills research team since 2007. Lucian joined Savills in 1993 after completing a degree in land economy at the University of Cambridge. He qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1995. As a practising surveyor he specialised in the provision of valuation advice for taxation, loan security and dispute resolution purposes and strategic management advice for a range of private and Institutional clients. Lucian is now one of the most quoted commentators on the UK housing market and frequently appears on radio and television. He leads a team of 25 researchers, who cover everything from social housing to the prime markets of central London and development land to residential Investment. He also provides consultancy advice to landowners, developers, housebuilders and investors.
Patrick King, Tax Partner, MHA MacIntyre HudsonPatrick is a Tax Partner and Chairman of MHA MacIntyre Hudson's Tax Steering Group as well as our national associations Tax Strategy Group, leading a team of specialists to ensure clients have access to the very best in compliance services and tax mitigation solutions. Patrick's own specialisms are capital tax planning for individuals, corporate restructuring, remuneration planning, profit extraction/repatriation and increasingly, international matters. He also advises clients on the tax implications of buying and selling their business. Patrick is a keen swimmer and occasional free diver,who still competes! James has been with the firm since 2005 and he covers a wide spectrum of tax issues, both personal and corporate. Concentrating on owner managed businesses, high net worth individuals and trusts, his expertise covers income tax, capital gains tax and inheritance tax planning as well as the corporate and transactional tax issues encountered by entrepreneurs and private business owners, including mergers and demergers, acquisitions and MBOs, exit and remuneration planning. David Morley, Head of Wealth Structuring, Blevins FranksDavid is an experienced trust and estate practitioner, being a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society, a Chartered Financial Planner, and a Registered Trust and Estate Practitioner. Most of his 30 year career has been spent working as a tax, trust, and estate planning specialist for the offshore life assurance companies. This has taken him around the world, living for periods of time on the Isle of Man and Geneva. He is a past Chairman of the Bristol branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), the Association of International Life Offices, tax committee. His specialism is trust planning and estate planning for people acting in a fiduciary capacity (trustees and deputies of the UK’s Court of Protection etc.) and for the elder client. He joined Blevins Franks Financial Management Limited in August 2013.
Jatin Patel, Founding Partner, Kinnison LimitedJatin is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. After leaving KPMG in 1998 he spent 12 years at Citibank Group as a Tax Director, working within the Private Bank on tax and wealth structuring for the bank’s UHNW and international clients. During his time at Citibank Jatin developed tax eﬃcient cross-border debt ﬁnancing and real estate fund structures for UHNW clients. In 2010, Jatin moved to UBS as an Executive Director within Wealth Management, working in the Wealth Planning team. He specialised in tax and wealth structuring for the bank’s HNW/UHNW and worked closely with onshore and offshore trustees. Jatin is a co-founder of Kinnison Limited and has significant experience working with clients’ tax advisers (Kinnison does not provide specific tax advice).
Jason Porter, Business Development Director, Blevins FranksJason has an Honours Degree in History and Politics, and is a Chartered Tax Adviser and qualified financial planner. Jason trained at Ernst & Young, and subsequently spent over five years with Coutts Private Bank. It was whilst at Coutts he realised not all the solutions to client needs were available in the tax space, and extended his advice base to financial planning. After an interesting sideways move into media for five years, Jason put his combined tax and financial planning skills to work again, joining Credit Suisse Private Bank as a Director, providing wealth-planning advice to ultra-high net worth clients. He joined Blevins Franks Financial Management Limited in February 2014, as the UK Business Development Director.
