After qualifying with a top 20 firm in 2002, Simone moved to Grant Thornton and worked with a diverse portfolio of manager owned business’ in a varied role covering both audit and management accountancy engagements. After 18 months in the audit and assurance team, she transferred to their national training centre in High Wycombe to train audit trainees for the firm.
From 2007 to 2010, she decided to apply her skills to the education of non-financial managers working as a freelance finance trainer for worldwide blue chip companies.
This eventually led her back to her technical roots in July 2010, joining the ICAEW Technical Advisory Service, helping fellow chartered accountants make sense of accountancy, audit, company law, anti-money laundering and ethical regulations.
Having joined ICAEW in 1997 as a technical advisor, Amanda Digne-Malcolm has been in various member service roles at ICAEW and now, as the Director of Practice, she is responsible for practice member support and engagement . Amanda has significant experience in the practice sector, but also looks to the future of accountancy. She has been instrumental in ICAEW’s exploration of AI development to support member and student enquiries and she also led the accounting body’s Tomorrow’s Practice project.
Dean Neaves, Manager, ICAEW Quality Assurance
Dean joined ICAEW in 2016 as a QAD reviewer. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PwC Cambridge and spent over 20 years in the audit practice working with a wide range of clients from small start-up technology businesses through to larger listed groups (both AIM and main market). He also worked on several transactions including IPO’s, fundraising and acquisitions.At ICAEW he has worked with all sizes of firms across audit, investment business (DPB) and Practice Assurance reviews.
Neil is a qualified accountant and the Partner Consulting Manager at Xero. He leads a team of field based consultants, who are dedicated to supporting Xero partners transitioning to a digital practice.
Neil’s passion is helping businesses realise their potential through the use of cloud technology. Before joining Xero, Neil served as a qualified accountant, managing a large portfolio of clients and also led a team supporting the transition of clients to new technology.
Helen is an experienced QAD reviewer, having joined ICAEW in 2005. She conducts QAD visits on firms of all sizes. She is also part of the ICAEW’s AML team and has a special interest in charities and the Academy Sector.
She trained in London and was previously a partner in an independent regional firm in St Albans where she specialised in accounts and tax compliance for owner managed businesses. Her client work also included charities, some sizeable audits and clients in the entertainment industry. In her firm, she also held the roles of audit compliance principal, staff partner and deputy money laundering compliance officer.
Samantha Brown ICAEW, Practice Manager
An experienced engagement strategist and project manager, Sam served as director of the Association for Office Professionals in South Africa, before joining the ICAEW as a communities manager and later as practice manager.
In her role as practice manager she works to help practitioners succeed by providing them with access to skills, knowledge and tools to service their clients across the business and wider community.
Rowena Hawkes, ICAEW South Wales and West Business Development Manager
Rowena has been supporting the growth of individuals and firms through learning and development for over 15 years, specialising in accountancy and finance qualification training and entry level talent programmes.
Rowena spent 9 years with accountancy and finance training provider, The Finance Training Company who became Kaplan Financial, focusing on Student and Client services, Business Development and specialist business improvement projects. With four years of experience working at Imperial Brands as a Global Finance Academy lead, Rowena brings a wealth of experience having developed her own internal finance development schemes, as well as business partner development programmes. Rowena joined ICAEW in September 2018 and has demonstrated a strong commitment to working across all sectors in the South West.
Bryony Thomas, Author & Founder, Watertight Marketing
Bryony is the multi-award winning creator of the Watertight Marketing methodology, captured in her best-selling book of the same name. Leaving her role as director of marketing for Experian Marketing Services in 2008, Bryony's end-to-end process has been designed and refined over the last decade and across 2000+ organisations. Those drawn to the approach are typically entrepreneurial in spirit, ethical in values, and deeply practical by nature. For these events, Bryony will be sharing a new framework from her second edition of the book, which has not yet been published.
