Speakers

Hilary Lindsay, Chair of the Academia & Education Community, ICAEW

Hilary Lindsay was the 2016-17 President of ICAEW. As President she was also Patron of CABA, the wellbeing charity for ICAEW members, where she had also been a Trustee for the previous nine years. In 2011-12 she was President of AAT (the Association of Accounting Technicians). She is now in line to become Master of the Chartered Accountants’ Livery Company.

Hilary is passionate about personal development and in 2013 completed doctoral research with The Open University (OU) into the roles of continuing professional development and lifelong learning in the accountancy profession. She has since published academic articles and a book in this area and developed frameworks to help ICAEW members and others accelerate their learning and personal adaptability. She is an award-winning lecturer in finance and management for the OU Business School and a researcher and supervisor on the OU Doctorate in Education programme. She was the first academic and second woman to be President of ICAEW and now chairs the steering group for the ICAEW Academia & Education Community which was launched in 2017.

Hilary has been involved with Northampton Samaritans for over twenty years and has run several marathons to raise funds for them. She lives in Northampton with her husband Colin. Their joint interests include their allotment, their livery companies and walking.

Susan Smith, Associate Dean (Education and Students) and Senior Lecturer in Accounting

Susan Smith, LLB, FCA, is Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Associate Dean (Education and Students) within the University of Sussex Business School. Susan is passionate about creating an inclusive learning environment and championing innovating teaching and learning practice.

She was part of the Chartered Association of Business School working party which developed the Certified Management and Business Educator designation which launched in 2019 and is currently working with UK Academic Tutoring to develop a professional recognition scheme for academic advising.

She is also an elected member of the ICAEW Council representing the South East and member of the ICAEW Ethical Standards Committee. Additionally, Susan is a director of the Chartered Accountants Trustees Limited, which manages the ICAEW charitable trusts spanning a variety of areas of educational activity including providing bursaries and funding for research.

Lucy Parr, Managing Director, First Intuition

Lucy Parr BA FCA is Managing Director of First Intuition Leeds and Sheffield. She has 18 years of experience teaching accountancy and tax training across several professional qualifications including ICAEW and specialises in teaching Financial and Corporate Reporting.

She is passionate about the development of future business leaders and ensuring they have the required knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed in the modern business world.

Lucy was ICAEW’s President for West Yorkshire and York Society of Chartered Accountants between May 2015 and May 2017 and is still heavily involved in the local district society as well as establishing a local networking group with members of other professional bodies.
