ICAEWs Iain Wright and Philippa Kelly will be joined by Andrew Goodwin and Richard Holt of Oxford economics to assess the outlook for the economy and the main sectors within it, across the various regions of the UK.

Andrew Goodwin is the Chief UK Economist at Oxford Economics. He is responsible for Oxford Economics’ UK forecasting and analytical content and leads the analysis of Brexit. Andrew regularly commentates on the UK economic outlook in the print and broadcast media.Andrew has been with Oxford Economics since August 2008. Prior to joining Oxford Economics, he spent three years working for Experian, where he managed the Regional Planning Service and was responsible for producing UK macroeconomic forecasts from the national level down to local authorities. Before joining Experian, Andrew spent four years as a senior economist at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
Richard Holt is Head of Global Cities Research at Oxford Economics, with responsibility for forecasting and commenting upon city and regional economies in the UK and internationally. He is an expert on UK regions and is currently leading a research project on the future impact of the pandemic on west London.
Iain Wright BFP FCA is Director for Business and Industrial Strategy at ICAEW. He started his career as a chartered accountant with Deloitte before moving to One North East the regional development agency for the North East of England. In 2004 he became Labour Member of Parliament for Hartlepool, having succeeded Peter Mandelson in a by-election. During his time in Parliament Iain was a Minister in Gordon Brown’s Government, first as Minister for Housing and Planning at the Department for Communities and Local Government between 2007 and 2009 and then as Minister for Schools and Apprenticeships in the Department for Children, Schools and Families from 2009 until 2010. In opposition Iain was Shadow Minister for Industry between 2011 and 2015. Following the General Election of 2015, he was elected by the House of Commons to be Chair of the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee, where he led high profile inquiries into the sale of BHS and working practices at Sports Direct. After deciding to stand down at the 2017 General Election, Iain became Chief Executive of NEPIC, a trade body in chemicals and processing industries in the North East of England. Iain is a Governor of Middlesbrough College and trustee of Kings College London’ Industrial Strategy Advisory Board. He also chairs the policy forum of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Philippa Kelly is Director of ICAEW’s Technical Strategy Business Group and Head of Financial Services. She leads ICAEW’s experts in corporate finance, business and management, technology and financial services as well as its technical and policy work related to banking, insurance and investment management. Philippa is a frequent commentator on diversity in financial services and importance of social purpose in the industry.
