In this webinar, Nigel Davies will set out the approach and timeline to developing the next SORP and recap on the resources on the SORP site to assist practitioners including advice on reporting on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joanna Pittman will give an insight from her participation in the SORP engagement process and offer a practitioner’s perspective on potential changes to the SORP under discussion. She will also discuss ICAEW’s resources aimed at assisting practitioners accounting for the ongoing impact of the pandemic.
Nigel Davies, Assistant Director of Accountancy Services, Charity Commission and Joint Chair of the Charities SORP CommitteeNigel joined the Commission in 2001, first heading up the Accountancy Unit team in their Taunton office and subsequently becoming Deputy Head of Financial Regulation and from 2006 Deputy Head of Accountancy Policy and Technical Secretary to the SORP Committee and latterly in 2014 Head of Accountancy Services and Joint Chair of the Charities SORP Committee.
He advises the senior management team on charity financial issues and oversees the work of the team of accountants who cover all accountancy aspects of operational and inquiry activities for the Commission. He leads for the Commission on accountancy related collaborations with umbrella organisations, professional accountancy institutes and technical panels and working parties. Nigel also speaks at events and conferences on charity accounting issues and publishes articles on charity accountancy matters.
Joanna Pittman, Partner, Sayer Vincent and Member of the Charities SORP CommitteeI am the audit partner for a portfolio of charities and social enterprises. My role here is to be a key contact for clients and ensure our work is of a high quality and adds value. I also have particular responsibility for technical and compliance – so I ensure that as a firm we are up-to-date with technical issues in audit and accounting and compliant with ethical standards and professional matters. I am also a tax specialist, particularly on VAT, so I am a member of our specialist tax group. I have experience of undertaking VAT reviews for clients, advising on VAT matters and corresponding with HMRC.
