RUSSELL COCKBURN B.Sc.(Hons) Taxation Consultant, Lecturer and Author
Russell Cockburn is an independent taxation consultant, author and lecturer. After a post graduation career in manufacturing industry as a production manager Russell trained as an Inspector of Taxes gaining a range of tax experience in HMRC.
Russell joined the accountancy profession in 1987 as a corporate tax manager for a medium sized firm of chartered accountants going on to head up the business tax department for a smaller firm before establishing his own taxation consultancy practice in 1989. He now heads Bluebell House Consultants LLP, a specialist independent tax consultancy publishing and training firm based in Cumbria but with personal and business tax clients all over the UK. He also provides the Tax Partner/Head of Tax role for Lamont Pridmore Chartered Accountants across their offices in Cumbria.
Specialising in personal and business tax Russell offers tax consultancy services to a wide range of business and professional adviser clients throughout the UK. In particular he deals with HMRC investigations, enquiries, planning business and other asset disposals, family capital tax planning and business restructuring as well as advising on the tax implications of corporate transactions, capital allowances claims, property purchases and disposals, tax disputes on benefits, employment taxes and other compliance issues, and many other technical tax issues as well as representing individuals firms and companies before the Tax Tribunals.
In addition to running his tax consultancy practice Russell provides professional training on tax to a wide range of clients in industry and commerce and has lectured all over the UK and offers a wide range of tax seminars and courses for small or large groups. He has presented papers at tax conferences as far afield as Mauritius and Nairobi and regularly gives seminars for accountants and other tax professionals across the UK. Russell also writes on tax matters for a number of well known publications and is regular Corporation Tax correspondent for the Institute of Chartered Secretaries monthly magazine and is also author of several booklets on taxation matters.
In 2002 Russell authored his first book The ICSA 2003/2004 Tax Guide and more wrote his second tax book “Small Business Tax Planning – Everything You Need to know from Start-up to Retirement” published in 2010 by Harriman.
Russell also edits and sub-edits tax digests and other tax books on a regular basis.
