Join us for a series of virtual meetings to give members an opportunity to connect, share their experiences /advice in the ever changing situation, and ask any questions or give feedback to ICAEW. Including a discussion about how ICAEW is working to aid recovery for businesses, and it's interaction with government around key issues affecting the profession.
Each meeting will be chaired by our local ICAEW Council Members Dr Matt Stroh and Tom Bell, their role is to be a conduit between local members and ICAEW.
There will be an opportunity to network with your peers and meet ICAEW members from the region.
Matt Stroh PhD BA(Hons) FCA Matt started his professional life as a Geography Lecturer at the University of Leeds following completion of his PhD at Sheffield. In 2000 he chose to leave academia to re-train as a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton. Matt now leads Grant Thornton UK’s Audit Technical team, working alongside Financial Reporting, Ethics and Quality Monitoring specialists to form the firm’s National Assurance Services team. He is responsible for ensuring that his team responds to the needs of the 1,600 members of the assurance practice by delivering high quality, technically robust, and pragmatic solutions to challenges faced by audit engagement teams. His team ensures that the firm has the tools, expertise and guidance to deliver high quality audit and assurance work, which is especially challenging in the current environment with the audit profession under increasing scrutiny.
Matt continues to lead a number of client engagements, including statutory audit, client money reporting and specialist financial reporting advisory engagements.
Matt is a member of the West Yorkshire and York District Society Committee and was President 2015-17.
In what spare time he gets from professional and family life, he is the Chair of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, a registered charity with a turnover of £2m, which operates steam trains along the line that is famed for being the location of the 1970 ‘The Railway Children’ film.Tom Bell BSc(Hons) BFP ACATom Bell joined BHP LLP with an honours degree in Mathematics in 2010. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2015 and became Senior Manager in April 2019. He manages a varied portfolio of personal and company clients and he is also a member of the firms’ specialist charity and not for profit team, acting several clients in this sector.He served as the youngest President of ICAEW West Yorkshire and York in 2017-2018. He has been involved with the local District Society since commencing his training, working his way through the student society to the District Society.Away from the office, he is a keen runner, entering various races across the UK, including his first marathon in April 2019. He is part of the local running club and has obtained his Leadership in Running Fitness qualification. His other interests include Rugby League, with him spending most weekends at Stanningley SARLC, where he is Treasurer and supporting Leeds Rhinos.
