Introduction to PowerBi
PowerBi is a data analytics tool available in Microsoft 365; but what can I do with it? Rachel Kirkham will demonstrate the basics of loading data, building visualisations and designing a dashboard.

What can I automate with Power Automate?
There is a lot of discussion of process automation in the profession today. You might be wondering how you could do this yourself? Rachel Kirkham will demonstrate the range of different functions that can be used in Power Automate to automate different aspects of Finance.

Machine Learning in Power BI
Want to access the power of Machine Learning? Don't know how to code? Rachel Kirkham will talk through the basics of machine learning in Power BI, and the different services available to use.

Modelling and Programming with Robert Mastrodomenico
Further details will be provided soon.

Behind The Scenes: The Making of a Data Visualisation Project
Over the past 4 years Andy Kirk has been working on his biggest ever data adventure to visualise every episode of the hit 90s TV show, Seinfeld, applying an sports-analytics style approach to translate and dissect this qualitative topic. In September 2020, he finally finished this project which, unexpectedly, turned out to be a 240-page book. In this talk Andy will go through his design process to share the detailed story behind this work: from the contextual circumstances, through the analytical stages of collecting and handling data, on to the myriad design choices around chart selections, colour usage and annotation.

Design for your Audience, OK but how?
In this talk Andy Kirk unpacks what it actually means to design for your audience. He will explore the different aspects of classifying audience characteristics around motivation, capability, capacity and pressure. Additionally, he'll look at the different settings in which audiences may encounter or experience visualisations, and how these affect design choices. Along the way, Andy will reflect on ways of making data more relatable and participatory to amplify the possibility of facilitating understanding.

About the speakers

Rachel Kirkham, Director, MindBridge Ai
Rachel is Director of AI Solutions and is responsible for the delivery of tailored solutions and services for the European market. Prior to joining MindBridge, Rachel was the Head of Data Analytics Research at the UK National Audit Office, leading a team of data scientists and analysts in developing unique data analytics capabilities for financial audit. For over 12 years, Rachel has bridged the gap between deep data analytics and complex market requirements, developing applications and visualizations that solve real problems in auditing and finance. As a passionate champion for the positive influence of women in technology, Rachel is a founding member of R-Ladies Global and often speaks on the importance of diversity in STEM. Rachel is an ACA-qualified chartered accountant and subject matter expert for the institute.

Rob Mastrodomenico, Owner, Global Sports Statistics
I studied for a BSc Mathematics and Statistics, at the University of Reading. Thereafter, having particularly enjoyed the Statistics side of my degree, I stayed on at Reading to study for a genetics-based Statistics PhD. When looking for work, I followed up an advertisement on the mailing list Allstat for a position as a Quantitative Analyst at Smartodds, a fledgling start-up statistical consultancy which undertook statistical research and provided sports modelling services in the betting sector. After working for a little more than 4 years at Smartodds, I started up my own company, Global Sports Statistics.

Andy Kirk, Freelance data visualisation specialist
Andy is a visualisation design consultant, training provider, teacher, author, speaker, researcher and editor of the award-winning website visualisingdata.com. Andy became a freelance professional in 2011. Since then he has had the fortune of working with a diverse range of clients across the world, including organisations such as Google, CERN, Electronic Arts, the EU Council, Hershey, and McKinsey. At the time of publication, he will have delivered over 270 public and private training events in 25 different countries, reaching more than 6,000 delegates. Alongside his busy training schedule, Andy also provides design consultancy with his primary client being the Arsenal FC Performance Team, since 2015.
