Event Information

In this webinar you will learn about the changing working conditions experienced in the farming and rural business sector as a result of COVID-19 and hear directly from advisory group members of the community.

Three practitioners from around the country covering livestock, vegetable, arable and mixed farming areas have come together to discuss how the pandemic has affected their clients with advisory group chair David Missen. Keith Phillips, Tim Evans and Will Nixey from Lincolnshire, Wales and Oxfordshire will look at the problems they have seen, the solutions that have been developed and prospects for the future.

David Missen, Consultant, Larking Gowen and Farmer
David is a former partner in, and consultant to Larking Gowen, based in East Anglia, specialising in agriculture and associated private client work. He is an author on farm accounting, founder member and past chairman of the group and for many years was the editor of “Farming Group News”. More recently he has been appointed as the Community Subject Matter Expert. Since retiring from practice David continues his involvement with agriculture, both as a speaker at training conferences and as a farmer in his own right.

Will Nixey, Director, Martin & Company Chartered Accountants
Will grew up in the farming industry and is still involved in the family farming business. This has led to his specialisation within the agricultural and landed estate sectors. Together with private clients his other clients include both incorporated and unincorporated owner managed businesses. As a member of the ICAEW Farming & Rural Business committee and also a member of the Chartered Tax Advisors, Will spends most of his time providing business and tax advice to the rural sector and private individuals.

Tim Evans, Partner/Director, H D Pritchard & Co, Chartered Accountants, Chartered Tax Advisers & Authorised Probate Practitioners
After graduating in 1996, Tim secured a Chartered Accountancy (ACA) training contract with a top 10 practice in Jersey, where he was engaged for 2 years, auditing Financial Institutions. In order to specialise in UK tax, he returned home to complete his ACA and commence Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) studies. He subsequently accepted the offer to specialise in tax with Ernst & Young in London. Whilst with EY, he qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser. His next challenge was to establish the worldwide brand and distribution network of Floodgate, a flood protection business. Over a 2 year period he travelled extensively in Europe, Australia, New Zealand & the USA. The business continues to thrive under the family's stewardship. Tim is also Finance Director of Old Oak Insurance Brokers another family business. In 2007 he had the opportunity to acquire a share in H.D. Pritchard & Co (HDP), when Mr Rowley retired. In 2016 Tim qualified as a Probate specialist. Once authorised, HDP will be able to extract the oath of probate, further enhancing the services we are able to offer our clients. In his spare time Tim is a keen table tennis player and can often be found skiing on the slopes in France in winter.

Keith Phillips, Director and Chartered Accountant, Duncan & Toplis Limited
Keith qualified in 1987 with ICAEW and is director of Duncan and Toplis a firm centred in Lincolnshire but has 11 accountancy offices with over 400 staff covering most of the East Midlands. Keith is a lead director of an office of around 26 staff and is a general practitioner looking after mainly family run businesses with a bias of around 60% towards agricultural or ancillary industry businesses. Many of his clients have been with the firm for 2 or 3 generations so very much the family trusted advisers dealing with all the challenges of day to day tax and future family succession working closely with the firms inhouse law and tax specialists and external land agent and lawyers to provide all encompassing advice.
