Event information

The pandemic has hit sectors such as retail, travel, hospitality and the arts particularly hard and businesses which found themselves struggling pre-pandemic are now facing, at best, a crisis in their future viability, and at worst, having to contemplate a formal insolvency procedure, administration or liquidation.

But what are the duties of a finance leader during this turbulent time and how can you be best prepared to face such challenges?

This session will look at the additional responsibilities of finance leaders during this challenging time. We will hear viewpoints from two speakers; the first speaker has been instrumental in the turnaround of a business that through necessity went through a Company Voluntary Arrangement and successfully emerged and continues to trade to this day, despite the challenges of the pandemic. Tyrone Courtman FCA, Partner at RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP is our second speaker and will be detailing his experiences of working with businesses that are struggling during this time.

During the second half of the session participants will break into two chat rooms chaired by Tyrone Courtman and Sophie Dale-Black, Regional Director, ICAEW Midlands.

Chat room 1: Preparing for the potential adverse financial impact of Covid

  • Assessing the future viability of your business
  • What is the transformation narrative – Future growth strategy, performance improvement and working capital/financing
  • How to afford to make changes and get buy-in from the Board

Chat room 2: Managing the finances of a business operating in the twilight of insolvency

  • The support available for finance leaders when the businesses they are in face insolvency
  • Your legal obligations, as a Finance leader, and personal risks when operating a business in the twilight of insolvency
  • Managing cashflow and cost control
  • Managing lenders, HMRC, trade creditors, and shareholders
  • How can you transition the business to a more sustainable future?
