Testimonials

"Having decided to move fully into the ESG area, I attended several previous Zoom webinars all of which were excellent. The Climate Summit was the next step and turned out to be an incredible series of fully relevant, insightful, practical and motivational events. It has left me energised and ready to start the challenge to make a difference but, more importantly with a full, very practical understanding of next steps, the sources of information and the approach that needs to be taken. Most importantly it explained the importance of accountants and how they are necessary in all areas of ESG."

"The ICAEW Climate Summit was a great opportunity for those working at the forefront of sustainability to exchange views with likeminded people."

"This was probably the best ICAEW programme I have ever been lucky enough to participate in. Very concise, well-organised virtual sessions with excellent speakers exploring themes both familiar and new. I now feel not just better qualified to tackle some of these issues in my own organisations but inspired and motivated to do so."

"Good coverage of the subject with some excellent speakers and discussion. Time well spent."

"The Climate Summit was a great opportunity for those of us who are passionate about the environment to get together, albeit virtually, to learn more from various speakers - businesses and chartered accountants."

"Great week and gets this important topic onto the agenda of the top table of businesses and their advisers. It is the start of a journey, but it is good to start that journey rather than delaying its start."

"This was an excellent series of talks. Extremely thought provoking, and equally importantly, highly practical. The speakers were both passionate and knowledgeable, and left me with actions and a desire to learn more."

"An excellent array of webinars focusing on the problems at hand. I found them informative and inspiring."

Programme

Date Topic Description
18/10/2021 Climate Disclosure 09:00 - The Trouble with Scenarios

The TCFD believes that scenario analysis is an important tool for organisations to utilise when assessing the potential business implications of climate-related risks and opportunities. In this session, chaired by Lois Guthrie from the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, we will discuss with our panellists how we can assist organisations with gaining the confidence to sign off on this analysis and how to use an interpretive lens to bridge the gap between organisation and investor perspectives. How can businesses use disclosure to tell their story? Joining the panel are Tristan Stanley, BHP; Christophe McGlade, IEA and Lydia Rainforth, Barclays.

10:30 - Navigating TCFD: are you prepared?

Join this session with KPMG for an in-depth discussion and roadmap on integrating climate disclosures into reporting using the TCFD recommendations. Learn about the climate disclosures that are decision-useful for external stakeholders and how these flow into back-half reporting. What parts of the TCFD recommendations are hard to implement and why? Why is the Finance function core to the implementation of a climate strategy? Joining the session are Bridget Beals who is Partner in KPMG’s Climate Risk and Decarbonisation Strategy team, and Helena Watson, KPMG. The session will be chaired by Alison Ring, Director Public Sector, ICAEW.

12:00 - Accountability and the Paris Agreement

Meeting the net zero emissions goals by 2050 will require businesses to actively reduce their carbon emissions now. To demonstrate action, investors are demanding Paris-aligned financial statements. Join the panel as we discuss potential options and what could be included. How can the financial statements promote accountability and behavioural change? What types of emissions should be included, and what about wider environmental impacts? Joining the session are Asif Chowdhury, EY; Sundip Jadeja, CDSB; Richard Murphy, Sheffield University and Natasha Landell-Mills, Sarasin & Partners.

19/10/2021 Climate Governance

08:30 - Boardroom blind spots: are you addressing climate risk?

Has your board started to prepare for the risks of climate change? Do you have the information you need to make the right decisions? Companies need to embed climate plans into core business strategy. Join us for an interactive Q&A to get practical advice for the boardroom on your climate related questions. This session will be chaired by Iain Wright, Managing Director, Reputation and Influence at ICAEW, the panel will include Julie Baddeley, Chair of the Chapter Zero Board and Alan Stewart, NED and Audit Committee Chair at Diageo plc.
