How do we keep ourselves sane in between juggling the uncertainties of a pandemic lock-down, being responsible for the never-ending demands that come in from the workplace and taking care of our equally-stressed families? How do we get our brains to ‘relax’ when we are on the brink of a burnout from all the daily ‘urgent’ things we need to tick-off our list? The answer is to apply a strategy of ‘being mindful’. In this session, participants will learn about Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), a practice developed in the UK and widely taught to the general population as a primary care treatment. It is a practice where people learn how to intentionally pay attention to their thoughts and present experience without being judgemental. The practice combines cognitive therapy principles, where it helps people to review their negative thoughts, let go of them and replace them with positive ones. Our speaker, Noelle Lim, will outline how the mind habitually locks us in unhappiness, and how practicing mindfulness could help us respond more skilfully to stress, burnout, depression and anxiety. There will be an opportunity for all participants go through a mindfulness session. Noelle is MBCT-trained from the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Oxford University and an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.
Noelle attended the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) teacher training at Oxford Mindfulness Centre, Oxford University. She is also a presenter at BFM 89.9 the business radio station in Kuala Lumpur, and is a Fellow of the Eisenhower Fellowships, and ICAEW.
