Event Information

In this increasingly uncertain world, estate and succession planning is a priority.

In partnership with Mazars and Edwin Coe LLP we have developed two virtual workshops, run by technical specialists, to deliver essential updates on inheritance tax, estate and succession planning for you, your family, and your clients. You will receive valuable practical guidance on how you and your clients can organise their affairs to meet their objectives and ensure that wealth is transferred to the next generation in the most efficient way possible.

Please join us for a two-part workshop series, making use of case studies to deliver invaluable information and insight into tax, estate, and succession planning.

Both workshops will provide crucial insight for you and your clients’ personal affairs.

Workshop one - 14 September Workshop two - 23 September
  • A summary of UK Inheritance Tax including the rates, reliefs, and nil-rate bands as well as an update on the Office of Tax Simplifications review of UK Inheritance Tax
  • Lifetime estate and succession planning opportunities with case studies, including second marriages, families with children from previous marriages and foreign abroad
  • Investment and retirement planning, including use of cash-flow forecasting, life insurance and pensions
  • Preparation, registration and use of Lasting Powers of Attorney for Property & Financial and Health & Care affairs
  • Following a short refresher of the first workshop, using case studies the presenters will discuss particular issues and potential solutions for unmarried cohabitees at different life stages, covering:
    • UK Inheritance Tax
    • UK Capital Gains Tax
    • Wills and succession planning
    • Life insurance
    • Cash-flow planning

About the speakers

Matthew Barnett, Partner, Private Client, Edwin Coe LLP
Matthew acts for high-net-worth individuals on a wide range of estate and succession planning issues. He has extensive experience in advising high-net-worth clients on lifetime gifting and on the use of wills and trusts for the protection of wealth for future generations. He regularly advises trustees on their duties, responsibilities and specific aspects of tax and trust planning. Matthew also advises business owners and entrepreneurs on business succession planning. Matthew has vast experience in probate and estate administration and has dealt with many high value, complex and multi-jurisdictional estates throughout his career. He often advises beneficiaries of estates on succession planning involving post-death variations. Matthew also has particular experience in advising clients on mental capacity issues such as Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship applications to the Court of Protection.

Jessica Brittain, Associate, Private Client, Edwin Coe LLP
Jessica joined Edwin Coe in September 2018 and completed seats in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Private Client, Intellectual Property and Insurance Litigation teams. She qualified as an Associate into the Private Client team in September 2020. Jessica graduated with an LLB from the University of Birmingham and completed her LPC at the University of Law, receiving a Distinction.

Anna Ridley, Associate, Private Client, Edwin Coe LLP
Anna joined the Private Client team in September 2019 from Withers LLP. Anna advises UK and international individuals, families and trustees on a wide range of matters including wills, trusts, tax, estate and succession planning and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Anna graduated from the University of Sheffield with a degree in Law with French and qualified as a solicitor in 2017.

Olivia Bucher, Financial Planner, Mazars Financial Planning Ltd
Olivia joined Mazars in 2019 as a Financial Planners in the Sutton office where she looks after private clients and owner-managed businesses in in the areas of pension and retirement planning, investment planning, protection and tax planning strategies. She holds the Investment Advice Diploma and Chartered member status with the CISI. She is also currently working towards achieving Chartered Financial Planner status with the CII. Olivia enjoys taking time to understand her clients and what’s important to them and providing quality advice to help them build, grow and preserve their wealth, leading to long-standing relationships. A personal highlight for Olivia was being a Finalist at the Women in Investment Awards 2017 in the Change Excellence category by the Investment Week magazine, as well as being a Finalist for this years’ Women in Financial Advice Awards 2020 for the South East.

James Robinson, Chartered Financial Planner, Mazars Financial Planning Ltd
James is a Chartered Financial Planner, with the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. His achievements have been recognised by Citywire Magazine two years in a row, being named one of the ‘Top 35 Next Generation Advisers’ 2017 and 2018. He was also runner up in the FT’s Money Management Award for Multi-Asset Planner of the year 2018. James’s focus is building lasting relationships with clients, piecing together previously disparate circumstances to maximise family wealth and meet clients’ objectives. His areas of expertise include planning for retirement, estate planning, tax planning and investment allocation. This includes working with business owners, as James is a member of the Entrepreneurial Business team at Mazars LLP.
