Our experienced panel will share practical tips for those supporting small charities (income below £500k) and who are planning to move their accounting records from spreadsheets or an existing system to a cloud-based accounting solution that is affordable, meets the needs of small charities and which charities can implement themselves or with a low level of support.
Neal Trup, Director, Neal Howard LtdNeal Trup is a sole practitioner who specialises in social and community enterprise. Neal works with smaller charities and social enterprises across the UK on a range of needs, including asset transfer, improvement and turnaround, strategic planning, management reporting, implementing accounting systems, social finance and community shares. Neal has developed a range of online diagnostic and assessment tools for major funders in the sector and delivers training on a range of financial governance and social enterprise topics. Neal joined the SORP Committee in February 2020 with a special focus on smaller charities, and he is also an ICAEW Support Member.
David Membrey, Principal Consultant, Adapta ConsultingDavid specialises in data protection, finance and grant management systems, information security and the use of information systems to drive charitable objectives. He develops strategies, business cases and requirements documents. He has worked with a wide range of clients including Alzheimer's Society, BACP, Cranstoun, Mothers' Union, Nuffield Foundation, RAF Benevolent Fund, Sport Aberdeen and Tudor Trust.He has over thirty years' experience in the not-for-profit sector and has most recently been Deputy CEO of the Charity Finance Group where he was responsible for IT, risk management, governance and finance. He also has had long experience of trusteeship and has been Treasurer of a number of charities including Index on Censorship and Photovoice, he is currently a trustee and Vice Chair of Keep Britain Tidy.
Tom Asher, Chief Operating Officer at MumsAidTom Asher is the COO of MumsAid, an award-winning perinatal mental health charity with a mission to ensure all mothers are supported in giving their babies the best start in life. He describes himself as an operational generalist with success in moving accounting software and implementing new finance systems in small charities. Prior to MumsAid he held roles at the International Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, The Money Charity, Spires Homeless Centre, The National Literacy Trust, AimHigher and South Yorkshire Education Business Partnership. He also works as a school governor and chair of the finance committee for two local primary schools. He is professionally trained opera singer and pre-pandemic performed regularly across the UK and internationally, most recently for Opera Holland Park, London.
