This course has been designed for senior finance or non-finance executives who are one or two levels below the main board, or newly appointed board directors, whether executive or non-executive.

Delegate feedback

It is a highly interactive course that focuses on the board's purpose, corporate codes of governance, business ethics and ethical behaviours. Participants will have opportunities to practise communication and influencing skills and learn about strategic tools used in the boardroom. Together with our experienced trainers and facilitators it makes for a highly interactive and impactful workshop.

The course can be delivered as either a ‘public’ course, where you will benefit from the participation of peers from different organisations, or in house, where we tailor them for your organisation focusing on the specific challenges you need to address.

Learning outcomes:

Understand the broad extent of directors' roles, legal obligations and responsibilities, including the difference between executive and non-executive directors
Identify the roles of the board and its committees and the important relationships between them
Recognise what behaviours and processes make an effective, well functioning Board
Understand how to influence at board level and to take account of differing perspectives

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom provides the same great learning experience as other ICAEW training, except one difference, you can learn from your desk.

Being delivered online makes it so much easier to access in a busy working week and would definitively recommend this type of training. The breakout rooms work really well to allow you to get to know the other participants and share experiences.

The focus is on the learner and creating an enriching classroom experience that connects participants globally. Using video, learners can converse and interact with the trainer and other learners in real-time. Whiteboards, break-out sessions, polls, screen-sharing, and interactive Q&A create an immersive learning experience.

I think the virtual training format using Zoom, and the survey features, and break out rooms, really works great. I had no problems engaging with the facilitator and felt he listened to what we said, and kept the pace of the content moving steadily.

David Levenson

David Levenson is an executive and career strategy coach, and expert in governance and leadership development. He founded Coaching Futures in 2016 with the aim of transforming people’s lives, careers and goals.

David works with senior professionals, including partners in accountancy firms, CEOs, CFOs and other C-Suite executives, and non-executive boards as a team coach and facilitator.

David has been a chartered accountant since 1984, qualifying with Touche Ross (now Deloitte). He worked in senior finance roles in the retail and property industries before moving into social housing in 1992 where he was Group Finance Director for leading London-based landlords Catalyst Housing Group, Genesis Housing Association (now part of Notting Hill Genesis) and Network Homes.

David is one of the co-creators of Raising Roofs a governance skills and leadership development programme which prepares future leaders for the boardroom. He is passionate about the workplace of the future and fascinated by how technology is rapidly changing the way we work. He is an advocate for diversity and inclusion from the front line to the boardroom, a frequent public speaker and contributor of articles and blogs on leadership, diversity and new technology.

A non-executive director for over twenty years, David presently serves on the board of Heyford Regeneration Limited, the registered provider for Oxfordshire’s largest regeneration project and is a board member of the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
