Ben Symons, Barrister, The 36 Group
Ben has over 20 years experience as a tax lawyer and barrister. Ben started his career working in the corporate / international department of Big 4 firms and worked as senior in-house tax counsel for a number of large financial institutions / investment banks including Deutsche Bank, UBS, and Blackrock. Ben was called to the bar of England and Wales in 2011.
Ben undertakes litigation and advises on tax in all areas of taxation. Ben has a particular interest in:
• Cryptocurrency advice and litigation;
• Defending taxpayers in relation to tax avoidance schemes that they have entered in to;
• All aspects of planning and litigation concerning inheritance tax;
• Cross border taxation issues, especially concerning the UK and Australia, for both companies and individuals;
• Transfer pricing disputes;
• All tax advisory and litigation issues related to trusts;
• Stamp duty land tax – tax planning opportunities and litigation; and
• Tax advice related to securities lending/collateral management/securitisation/derivatives
• VAT – all advisory and litigation issues.
