Event Information

The world of cloud computing is big business, but for people new to it things can be quite daunting. In this session we will give a gentle introduction to what cloud computing is, its benefits and some of the key questions you may want to ask when considering it.

If you don’t know your AWS from your GCP or your Docker from your Kubernetes, fear not, as this session will go through the options available, what they do and how they work. We will also cover how the use of cloud can give you access to a variety of services including AI and Machine Learning.

About the speakers

Robert Mastrodomenico, Founder, Alchemax Analytics
Robert studied for a BSc Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading. Thereafter, having particularly enjoyed the Statistics side of his degree, he stayed on at Reading to study for a genetics-based Statistics PhD. When looking for work, he followed up an advertisement on the mailing list Allstat for a position as a Quantitative Analyst at Smartodds, a fledgling start-up statistical consultancy which undertook statistical research and provided sports modelling services in the betting sector. After working for a little more than 4 years at Smartodds, Robert started up his own company, Global Sports Statistics.

Ian Pay, Head of Data Analytics & Tech, ICAEW
Ian has recently joined ICAEW as Head of Data Analytics and Tech, looking at the role that analytics and technology solutions play in the profession. Prior to this, Ian worked for over 10 years at PwC in Data Analytics, specialising in External Audit and Data Acquisition and developing robust and automated ETL processes to support the firm’s award-winning Halo suite of applications. Ian also played an active role in the development and delivery of training courses, with digital upskilling being an area he is particularly passionate about. He has previously trained as a secondary school teacher and a musician.
