Aimed at small and medium sized companies this webinar aims to demystify what the UK’s Export Strategy means for business and the practical support on offer.

About the speakers

 

 

 

Rory McDonnell, Deputy Head of Partnerships, Department for International Trade 
Rory is the Deputy Head of Partnerships for the Midlands where he focuses on working with civil and private organisations to develop programmes of support for those trading internationally. Rory has been in the Civil Service for 7 years working in funding roles for academy education and economic regional development. Rory has previously worked in the private sector at two leading international banks and holds a degree in economics and a master in urban planning.

 

 

 

 

Derek Binns, Specialist Adviser, Department for International Trade
After starting his career in the USA (Polaroid Inc and WL Gore Associates), Derek amassed 30 years’ experience working in international trade consultancy. Initially in Switzerland with KSA (Kurt Salmon Associates/Gherzi Associates). In 2000 Derek founded DBL Consulting and has lived and worked in several countries around the World (including Belgium, Italy, Turkey and Germany), fulfilling long term projects in supply chain marketing, e-commerce and trade finance for prominent global corporates and NGOs. More recently in Germany Derek has held various senior leadership and advisory roles in sourcing, e-commerce, trade finance and SaaS with leading multinational corporates including Otto International and Sabanci Holdings where he was involved with acquisitions and mergers including ICI and Hermes. Returning to London in recent years to pursue his fintech, SaaS and trade finance interests as both a Director and NED, Derek was also able to accept several assignments at the DIT including E-Exporting Specialist Adviser and International Trade Advisor. Derek is currently Finance, Professional and Business Services Specialist Adviser to the sector in the Pan Midlands region (East & West). Working on the Midlands Engine levelling up agenda to encourage, support and facilitate service sector exports from the region.
