Accounting for Healthcare is a specialist area that requires expertise and an understanding of the industry. ICAEW has designed three 'fundamentals' training courses to assist those new to the sector.

All courses are delivered by practitioner Debbie Wood who has extensive hands-on experience, and will include case studies and practical examples.

Basic Fundamentals Course

This course is for those who are relatively new to preparing a set of medical practice accounts and are starting to gain some experience in this area.

Advanced Fundamentals Course

This course is for those who have had previous involvement in accounts and tax work for GP clients and are looking for additional guidance on some of the more technical aspects of the sector, including some more complex areas of the NHS pension scheme and associated tax issues.

This course is for those needing to understand the basics of the NHS pension scheme when preparing accounts and tax returns for their GP clients, including how to calculate and complete the annual pension certificates and other relevant forms. This course will not cover the more advanced pension tax aspects.

Pension tax charges and the impact of McCloud will be covered.

About the trainer

Debbie Wood joined Moore & Smalley in January 1999 as resident partner in the Blackpool office to manage client services on the Fylde. She is the current Chairman of the MHA Moore and Smalley partnership and leads the firm’s specialist healthcare services department.
Debbie is Chairman of The Association of Independent Specialist Medical Accountants (AISMA) and a former President of the North West Society of Chartered Accountants. Debbie has specialised in looking after Healthcare Professional clients for over twenty-five years and is invited to speak at seminars across the country to doctors, their practice managers and fellow accountants on a wide variety of financial management topics affecting the sector. She contributes articles and comments to the Medical Press on a regular basis.
