Event Information

Over the summer of 2022, we have witnessed first-hand the trilemma that is shaking the fundamentals of how the UK functions to meet societal needs: energy supply & security, the astronomical increase in energy costs and the impacts of climate change.

Dire warnings about the cost of “doing business” as energy bills rise fourfold this autumn are everywhere. Swathes of businesses are expected to go under. Tinkering with tariffs are unlikely to benefit the bottom line or provide long-term resilience and there is no silver bullet to fix this pervasive problem. What’s needed is a rapid transition to a low carbon economy that demands significantly less energy, and energy generated from a suite of renewable and sustainable sources, preferably geographically close to the demand.

But how to make this transition and the investment needed when businesses are struggling to survive?

Joining Head of Business at ICAEW, Simon Gray, in this webinar are ICAEW members and passionate advocates of change to a low carbon economy: Paul Adderley, Founding Director of Beyond Green, an award-winning B Corp, and Chris Trigg, Managing Director at OnGen Ltd.

Using case studies and real-life examples we will discuss:

  • Barriers that appear to be preventing businesses from making a step change to a low carbon economy and how to break these down.
  • The latest on substitutes for carbon fuels, alternatives to both electricity and gas and the future of renewables.
  • Practical steps on how any business can reduce consumption.
  • Typical capital costs of implementation.
  • Sources of loan and grant funding available to move to a lower carbon model.

There will be time for questions from the audience and we actively encourage questions in advance to communities@icaew.com

Key benefits

  • Gain an understanding of the steps that successful businesses are making to ensure their own future.
  • Learn more how a low carbon future can give a business a competitive advantage through practical tips.
  • Hear about funding available to businesses.
