Auditing and Accounting for Property Companies

There are specific auditing and accounting issues when dealing with property companies that are easy to get wrong. This session will look at the latest requirements to keep attendees up to date.

The session will cover the accounting material in the first half and the auditing in the second half.

Accounting
The topics to be covered are:

• Accounting for investment properties FRS 102
• FRS 102 – accounting treatment of loans including the tax implications and disclosure issues
• Deferred tax on revaluations
• Accounting for inventories in property developers
• Accounting for construction contracts

Auditing
The topics to be covered are:

• Auditing property valuations
• Using service organisations, such as property agents
• Auditing work in progress
• Specific issues arising from property loans
• Materiality in a property company
• Use of sampling

Suitable for: This course is for all accountants and auditors in practice who prepare and/or audit financial statements for property companies.

CPD hours: ICAEW’s CPD Regulations are changing. From 1 November 2023, members and other professionals regulated by ICAEW will need to complete a minimum number of hours’ CPD per year, some of which will need to be verifiable. Attending events like this could contribute to 2 hours and 10 minutes of verifiable CPD, so long as you can demonstrate that the content is relevant to your role.

John Selwood ACA
John is a chartered accountant and independent training consultant, who lectures for major accountancy practices, professional bodies, training companies and publishers. He speaks on financial reporting, auditing, money laundering and company law. John is a member of ICAEW’s Audit and Assurance Faculty’s Practitioner Services Panel Committee and the Technical and Practical Auditing Committee. He has been involved with presenting and writing the material for the Audit and Assurance and Financial Reporting Faculties Roadshows for a number of years. He also regularly writes for Audit & Beyond and is the author of Core Auditing Standards for Practitioners.

How are the courses delivered?
All the Essentials CPD courses are run by live webinar on Zoom. Once the live date has passed the courses are available on demand.

How long will be the webinar be?
Total running time for the live webinars is 2hours and twenty minutes.

The live webinars are split into two 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute comfort break in between and ending with a 30 minute Q&A session with the speaker.

How do I attend a live webinar?
Once you've booked on you will receive an email with your booking confirmation, one week before the live event you will receive the zoom registration link and further joining instructions.

How do I access the course notes?
The course slide deck will be shared with the Zoom link.

What if I miss the live date?
The live webinar will be recorded and offered on-demand 24-48 hours after the live course.

Can I watch the recording after attending the live course?
No, delegates can either attend the live session OR have access to the on demand recording, not both.

The above discounts shown are automatically applied at the time of booking.

The discounts are valid for individuals booking more than one course at a time or corporate bookings where more than one delegate from the same organisation is booked onto the same course.
