Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) are used daily by millions of applications and websites to transmit data and information back and forth. When you use your phone to check the next bus times, look up the weather forecast or even message your friends, you’re using APIs. If you’ve ever bought something using PayPal, that’s an API. Chances are, logging onto your organisation’s intranet uses an API too. APIs are a fundamental building block of the interconnected world of today, but information on this topic is often complex and aimed at technical experts.

In this webinar, we will give a simplified introduction into what an API is, key concepts that everyone needs to know, and provide example use cases in accounting. We will also give a live demonstration using open source APIs to show how simple it is to understand and use APIs, and the power and potential that they can deliver.

About the speaker

Robert Mastrodomenico: Founder, Alchemax Analytics
Robert studied for a BSc Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading. Thereafter, having particularly enjoyed the Statistics side of his degree, he stayed on at Reading to study for a genetics-based Statistics PhD. When looking for work, he followed up an advertisement on the mailing list Allstat for a position as a Quantitative Analyst at Smartodds, a fledgling start-up statistical consultancy which undertook statistical research and provided sports modelling services in the betting sector. After working for a little more than 4 years at Smartodds, Robert started up his own company, Global Sports Statistics.
