David hails from Wigan in the North West but now lives in Hertfordshire with his wife and two children. He is a former president of the St Albans and District Chamber of Commerce and has an honorary doctorate from the University of Hertfordshire.

He has had a highly successful 24-year career in the banking sector alongside an equally successful international football career. He has played 144 times and scored 128 goals for Great Britain’s and England’s blind football teams – including eight European Championships, five World Championships and three Paralympic Games. In 2018 David took a conscious decision to play an active role in the third sector and he joined RNIB as Director of Services. He is keenly focused on ensuring visually impaired people have access to the information, advice and guidance they need, as well as providing consumer and commercial services which seek to remove the barriers which prevent them living the life them wish to lead.

RNIB is one of the UK’s leading sight loss charities and the largest community of blind and partially sighted people. It recognises everyone’s unique experience of sight loss and offers help and support for blind and partially sighted people – this can be anything from practical and emotional support, campaigning for change, reading services and the products offered in their online shop.
