Event Information

These groups are well established and have been around for a number of years, aiming to support business members in the local area. These are also a great networking opportunity to meet other members in your area and build up your business connections.

Our Business breakfasts are made up of business members including professionals, Business Owners and Entrepreneurs, all with that ambitious mindset to understand the key to business success in the area.

All business members should join these business breakfasts if they are looking for something better from their Networking, as well as offering invaluable peer support.

For these meetings we usually have a guest speaker to discuss various topics and achievements with business members.

We will also discuss the BCM (Business Confidence Monitor) results and consider anything that resonates with business or the economy and area. Your views are greatly valued on business confidence across the region and also on highlighting urgent issues that government needs to address. Discussions will be according to Chatham House rules and all comments will be treated as confidential.

James Shand BSc FCA CF

James Shand is a qualified Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of commercial experience, who has worked with entrepreneurial SME owners and managers as Finance Director since 1998, enabling them to achieve successful growth. James had several years of multinational company experience, challenging VC backed company experience and was also a Plc Group FD prior to starting vfdnet.

At the age of 40, and with a young family, James was scapegoated and lost his full-time role, and faced rebuilding his career from a ‘ground zero’ basis. James was fortunate to have an amazing mentor who supported him through this difficult period, and was blessed with new clients early on. In 2004 James founded vfdnet, creating an affordable way for FDs and FCs to rapidly build sustainable portfolio careers, levelling them up against experienced portfolio FDs. James is now passionate about encouraging FDs and FCs to build their own sustainable portfolio career.

vfdnet is now a thriving community of over 20 experienced VFDs and VFCs who have all chosen to build their own sustainable career. vfdnet provides pragmatic client solutions, together with focussed ‘mentoring for success’, all designed to accelerate income earning in the early months. vfdnet launched its new London & Bucks hub in 2020.

James himself also operates as a Virtual Finance Director, providing part time FD services to ambitious SME owner managers. James has enjoyed being part of over 25 successful deals and has helped clients raise over £30m of funding. Of the deals James has been involved in approx. 20 were trade sales (acting for acquisitive companies and exiting business owners), with the last 7 deals being business sales to MBOs or Employee Trusts
