Event Information

A presentation by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UKFIU) of the National Crime Agency (NCA) and National Investigation Service (NATIS) on what constitutes a good quality suspicious activity report (SAR), focusing on bounce back loan (BBL) fraud and misuse of other Covid support schemes. The webinar will also guide you through:

  • when you may need to submit a DAML before accepting an insolvency appointment
  • what constitutes a good SAR
  • what information you can include to assist NATIS in bringing a successful action against the perpetrator of the fraud

The webinar is aimed at the Restructuring & insolvency community but is open to all firms who may wish to obtain further guidance.

About the speakers


Emma Barker, Lead Accredited Financial Investigator, National Investigation Service
Emma is Lead Accredited Financial Investigator for the National Investigation Service (NATIS), supervising a team of accredited financial investigators. Prior to NATIS, Emma worked as an Accredited Financial Investigator at Kent Police and HM Prison Service, dealing with a variety of crime types and crime methodologies, including cases involving cryptocurrency, acquisitive crime and international money laundering cases. Emma commenced her investigative career working for the Crown Prosecution Service in a number of roles in the Kent Crown Court Units and Southeast Complex Casework Unit, before moving into the Proceeds of Crime Unit in London as a Paralegal Business Manager, progressing to become a Financial Examiner within the same department.

Sian Brown, Senior Officer, NCA
Sian has worked in the NCA for 4 years, originally posted into the Defence Against Money Laundering (DAML) Team in the UKFIU but also undertaking secondments as a Financial Intelligence Officer in the National Targeting Centre and as a Financial Investigator in the Birmingham investigations team. Sian has been able to take experience from the various teams and use it in their current role as a senior officer on the Reporter Engagement team to engage with reporters and improve the quality of SARs submitted to the UKFIU.


Chris Sloan, Lead Accredited Financial Investigator, National Investigation Service
Chris is a Lead Accredited Financial Investigator for the National Investigation Service (NATIS). He manages one of two civil recovery teams. Most of the work undertaken by the NATIS civil recovery teams is generated from SARs intelligence. These teams were formed in September 2022. To date they have frozen over £2.3 million. Chris previously worked as an AFI for the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and prior to that he was with the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) for thirty years. In the MPS Chris mostly undertook specialist crime postings including intelligence, homicide, shootings, and economic crime.

Victoria Alexandrou, Reviewer, ICAEW
Victoria has over 20 years’ insolvency experience. She has worked in firms ranging from a sole practitioner to one of the Big 4. She completed JIEB in 2011and joined ICAEW’s QAD department in 2016. She spends around 75% of her time carrying out insolvency visits, with the remainder of her time being spent on practice assurance visits. Outside of work, Victoria spends much of the summer months attending various motoring events around the country.
