Richard Joseph FCARichard qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1972. He opened up his own Practice in 1986 having earlier been the financial director of a property group and a Cambridge tech company. He got involved in the North London Society of Chartered Accountants in 1988, and later with the London Society, and was its President in 2000. This has meant that Richard has had a lot of contact with many small and sole practitioners over the years and so has achieved a better than average knowledge and understanding of their problems and concerns. He was invited to join the ICAEW’s Member Support Task force in 1993, and was instrumental in the devising of the concept of the “Support Member Scheme” which provides confidential assistance and advice to members on any subject concerning them, including of course issues surrounding retirement and practice sales. Richard has been one of the North London Support Members since 1994. Richard’s interest in counselling led to the ICAEW sponsoring him to become a qualified Mediator (ADRg) in 2003. He sold his own practice in April 2021 so has very recent experience of the ins and outs of this procedure at first hand. He will therefore be able to bring this recently acquired knowledge to our “Exiting Practice” presentation.
