Event information

Our speaker will cover the importance of creating psychological safety, exploring its definition, benefits, and strategies for leaders. We’ll look at inclusive language and communication, identifying derogatory terms and integrating diversity into policies.

The section on intersectionality will provide an overview of legal protections and types of discrimination, discussing the 6 Signature Traits of inclusive leadership, and the manager's role in promoting inclusion throughout the employee lifecycle.

About the speakers

Gill Cooke, award-winning Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) change-maker

Gill is a thought leader with a background in IT programme management and television production. Gill has experience of delivering complex, cross-geography and cross-functional EDI Strategies and programmes, including zero tolerance, fertility leave, menopause support, and hybrid and flexible working. Gill is experienced in collaborating with global stakeholders, analysing key metrics and data to deliver improvements in recruitment, policy, people services, learning and development, strategy, and best practices across UK and Ireland, reporting, influencing, and communicating with senior management and the board. Gill has diverse life-experience having spent most of her childhood in Sudan, worked in Egypt and France, and studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies. She is also a brilliant networker and has access to a large community of expertise and people with different lived experience.

Currently working as a freelance consultant and associate, Gill delivers strategies, action plans, and toolkits. She supports and coaches leadership, employee networks, and focus groups, can assist with data audits, and is a trainer and facilitator. Gill has considerable corporate experience and proven results in increasing employee satisfaction scores and Glassdoor scores, founding employee networks, winning awards, and raising the DIB profile of organisations.

Marcia Dyce, Communities Manager – Diversity & Belonging, ICAEW

Marcia Dyce is a dedicated professional who plays a pivotal role at the ICAEW. As the Life Stages Communities Manager, she orchestrates a wide array of networking events, webinars, and workshops, fostering connections among ICAEW’s diverse membership. Marcia is passionate about promoting inclusivity and diversity within the organization. Notably, she manages key communities such as Diversity and Inclusion, Women in Finance, Young Members London, and Career Breakers. Marcia’s initiative in establishing the Black Members Community underscores her commitment to positive change and advocacy.

CPD hours

ICAEW's revised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Regulations bring in new CPD requirements. This includes a minimum number of hours and an ethics requirement. Attending this webinar could contribute up to one hour of verifiable CPD, providing you can demonstrate that the content is relevant to your role.
