It's undeniable that organisations make better commercial decisions when finance is involved. But if that's the case, then why do so few businesses involve finance in commercial decisions? The simple answer is RELATIONSHIPS.

Relationships are at the heart of finance business partnering. People accept advice from people they know, like and trust. You could be the most technically brilliant accountant, but if you can't influence key decision makers, communicate financial concepts to a non-finance audience, or build strong relationships with others, the business will never know your true abilities.

This course teaches finance professionals how to become world-class finance business partners by showing them how to build stronger relationships, transform their data into commercial insight and bring their numbers to life. If finance wants to lead change and add value to the business, developing business partnering skills is the most effective way.

Learning outcomes:

  • Rapport is everything - people take advice from people they like and trust. Learn how to build sustainable relationships with anyone quickly, whether they're in the room or online.
  • Lead with insight, not data - businesses are overwhelmed with data and are suffering from decision paralysis. Learn how to extract the insight from your data, reducing the time spent on reports while increasing the impact and actionability.
  • Inject 'life' into your numbers - lengthy reports are boring and disengaging. Learn how to present and communicate a crystal clear message with the confidence of a top Chief Marketing or Sales Executive; tell the story behind the numbers and hook the business to act.
  • Negotiate for win-wins - too often, collaboration between finance and the business ends with the perception that someone has lost. Learn how to challenge and influence others elegantly and sell your ideas by considering the business context to produce effective outcomes.

Adapted to meet the needs of the busy finance professional, we've redesigned the course to be even more digestible and quicker to learn whilst providing participants with more flexibility with our FBP On Demand or FBP Masterclass options.

What is a virtual classroom?

A virtual classroom provides the same great learning experience as other ICAEW training, except one difference, you can learn from your desk.

Being delivered online makes it so much easier to access in a busy working week and would definitively recommend this type of training. The breakout rooms work really well to allow you to get to know the other participants and share experiences.

Virtual classroom delegate

The focus is on the learner and creating an enriching classroom experience that connects participants globally. Using video, learners can converse and interact with the trainer and other learners in real-time. Whiteboards, break-out sessions, polls, screen-sharing, and interactive Q&A create an immersive learning experience.

I think the virtual training format using Zoom, and the survey features, and break out rooms, really works great. I had no problems engaging with the facilitator and felt he listened to what we said, and kept the pace of the content moving steadily.

How do I attend a virtual classroom?

Once you've booked your session, you will receive an email with your booking confirmation. The steps you will need to follow to attend your virtual classroom will arrive in a separate email closer to the date of your course.

About the trainers

Iain Dewson
Iain is an audit-trained senior finance leader. He qualified as an ACA and took a finance career path through various industries and financial control and FP&A roles until he landed at TUI to run their global Finance Academy. He was responsible for the learning and development of over 3,500 finance colleagues in more than 42 countries, which was a radical change in direction and a real eye-opener. Spending almost six years running a global learning platform, as well as designing and delivering bespoke training programmes around the world, was a richly rewarding experience.

His finance background combined with his viewpoint of looking into finance as a senior learning and development leader has given him a unique perspective. He now concentrates on finance business partner training: building relationships, turning data into insights and bringing numbers to life.

Our public course programme is deliberately structured to encourage delegates from different organisations to participate. However, if you have six or more delegates who require development in the same area, we are able to run a more cost-effective and much wider range of courses tailored specifically to your organisation.

Organisations will have the choice to run our in-house courses online or in-person.

These are ideal for organisations seeking hassle-free, flexible and cost-effective training delivered to multiple delegates at your location of choice. Whether we use our existing materials or develop new content for your business, our expertise lies in translating your requirements into a pragmatic, interactive training programme highly relevant to your people and organisation.
