Month-end performance reporting to business partners is a critical finance process, but in a world of increasing automation, for many it continues to be manual and repetitive. There are risks around data integrity and human error. Business partners are often left wanting more in terms of deeper understanding and action-orientated information. Follow up data requests add further burden to finance and are often ineffective in solving issues.

Month end reporting of the future will be fast and reliable, agile with easily implementable changes and high-quality data. Analysis will be quick to produce and evolve with business requirements. Most importantly, business partners will take actionable insights from the information, self-serving on detail and reducing data requests on finance teams by up to 80%.

This course will take finance professionals involved in the close process from zero to being able to produce a month end commercial reporting pack in Power BI. An upfront investment of time, learning and creating month end reporting in Power BI will save time in perpetuity by automating manual processes, reducing errors and removing unnecessary elements of business partnering.

Learning outcomes:

  • Create revenue reporting that will be interactive and rich, and allow business partnering to be increasingly effective.
  • Give business partners the information they need, and the support to make decisions on a course of action.
  • Introduce new ways of working to their finance teams.
  • Save time on a process with increased value add output.

Important! This course will require working through 6-8 hours of video on demand self-led learning with exercises BEFORE days 1 and 2 (3-4 hours pre-work per session, 1 month between sessions). This will be essential to complete for the live sessions to be useful.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at anyone below top level senior positions (e.g. Analyst / Manager) who want to make significant improvement to their month end processes through investing in their own skills, and that of the team, in order to spend more time as an active business partner.

Attendees will need to be comfortable with excel and have had good experience of a month end process, so they can think through how the steps and benefits can apply to their unique issues.

Technical notes: Individual Power BI licenses are free to download and use to build reporting but sharing reporting with business partners will require a paid license as part of Microsoft 365 subscription. Power BI and Zoom are CPU/memory intensive. Power BI may be sluggish during the virtual parts of the course on older machines. Building reporting live is not compulsory, many attendees just watch and listen. Copies of the model at each stage of its build are provided for use in any exercises during Day 1 and 2.
