Planning and forecasting in an increasingly uncertain world

Forecasting in today’s uncertain world involves scenario planning, which facilitates answering three key questions: What could happen? What would be the impact on our strategies, plans and forecasts? How should we respond?

This course identifies and addresses the issues and challenges facing accountants in constructing, implementing and managing financial forecasts in an environment which is uncertain with ever increasing event risks.

The workshop allows participants to think commercially and critically regarding the development of forecast models.

The workshop will incorporate numerous practical models using excel.

Course Content:

• Understanding event risk and the impact on forecasting
• The business model and strategy
• Four broad scenario types – PEST and internal versus external factors
• Defining key performance measures and leading indicators
• Linking the tactical forecast to strategic objectives
• Financial forecasts that cover different scenarios
• Using excel tools for forecasting
• Use appropriate estimation techniques in the development of revenue and expense forecasts
• Introduction of the role of technological solutions and artificial intelligence to improve forecasting

Course Outcomes:

At the end of this workshop, you will have had the opportunity to think critically about forecasting the three statement models. Be able to respond to uncertainty and use scenarios and sensitivities to help better understand the threats and opportunities in today’s changing world. You will also have refreshed some ideas on different approaches to forecasting and can consider whether these may be appropriate for your organisation.

How are the courses delivered?
All the Essentials CPD courses are run by live webinar on Zoom. Once the live date has passed the courses are available as on demand recordings.

What is the total running time of theses courses?
Total running time for the live webinars are 2 hours and 20 minutes.
The live webinars are split into two 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute comfort break in between and ending with a 30 minute Q&A session with the speaker.

How do I attend a live webinar?
Once you've booked on you will receive an email with your booking confirmation, one week before the live event you will receive the zoom registration link and further joining instructions.

How do I access the course slide deck?
The course slide deck will be shared a few days before the course date.

What if I miss the live date?
The live webinar will be recorded and offered as an on-demand recording within 24-48 hours of the live session finishing.

Can I watch the recording after attending the live course?
No, delegates can either attend the live session OR have access to the on demand recording, not both.

Do the courses on this programme count as verifiable CPD?
Yes these courses contribute to 2 hours 10 minutes of verifiable CPD, so long as you can demonstrate that the content is relevant to your role.

Can I share the links and watch the courses with a colleague?
One booking allows for one delegate to attend or watch the on demand recording.
