Event information

While these industries may not always dominate national headlines, those working in entertainment, media, and sport understand the significant impact of recent policy changes, including the Chancellor’s autumn budget.

From inflation-adjusted reductions in spending for the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) to new reliefs for the creative industry, rising costs, and investments in sports facilities, the landscape is shifting rapidly. But what do these changes mean for 2025 and beyond? What should industry professionals prepare for?

Our speaker Katie Butcher, PwC, will talk through the key dynamics and disruption impacting the UK Entertainment and Media (E&M) market, and how PwC anticipate the UK E&M market will evolve across different industry sub-segments and compared to other major geographies.

She will be joined by Johan Rewilak, Assistant Professor, Department of Sport and Entertainment Management, University of South Carolina, who will tackle the sports industry and discuss topics such as the key strengths and weaknesses of 2024, the projections for 2025, the emerging sector themes as well as the global trends and challenges ahead.

Key benefits

  • Hear a comprehensive sector overview from industry experts on the sector's current position.
  • Gain insights into what changes can be expected within the sector in the coming years.
  • Have your questions answered at the end of the presentation.

About the speakers

Johan Rewilak, Assistant Professor, Department of Sport and Entertainment Management, University of South Carolina
Johan currently works at the Department of Sport Management at the University of South Carolina (the largest program in the United States by student numbers), having joined in January 2023. Prior to this position, Johan served as an Assistant Professor of sport economics at Aston Business School in Birmingham, U.K., and attained his PhD in Economics from the University of Leicester.
His research in sports economics and finance has led to numerous published articles in leading sport management journals as well as authoring several book chapters. His past research on financial sector fragility has led to invitations to disseminate his findings to the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development as well as the Federal Reserve Bank of South Africa.
Johan's work outside the academy has led to multiple advisory roles ranging from large sports franchises where he helped ascertain sponsorship value, to non-profits by calculating the social impact of sport on local communities.
It is also a pleasure to announce that Johan will be returning to the UK in July 2025 where he will join Loughborough University as an Associate Professor in Sport Economics.
