About the speakers

Robert Lloyd-Griffiths OBE | Director of Wales | ICAEW

Robert Lloyd Griffiths OBE is ICAEW’s Director for Wales and he chairs the Wales Productivity Forum. He holds several non-executive and advisory positions and, following an early career in Marketing and Communications, was previously the National Director for the IoD in Wales. He has chaired a number of Welsh government Task and Finish Groups and Reviews and is Chair of The Duke of Edinburgh Awards Business Advisory Group in Wales. He has a degree in Banking and Finance from Cardiff Business School, is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing and was awarded his OBE in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the economy and voluntary services in Wales.

Steve Smith | Finance Director | The Trade Centre Group

Steve Smith is the Finance Director at The Trade Centre Group and has held this position for the past three years, having joined the business in 2019. Steve trained with Grant Thornton and has over 20 years’ experience in finance roles across a range of sectors, including financial services and sport. Steve brings extensive expertise in financial leadership, strategic planning, and commercial finance, with a strong focus on driving performance and delivering value in fast-paced environments.

Roy Ellis | CFO | Character.com

After qualifying with KPMG in South Wales, Roy has spent the last 25 years in the retail and consumer sector. This includes UK and multi-national physical and ecommerce businesses, under publicly listed, private equity and private ownership. For the last 15 years, Roy has held CFO and other Board roles, with experience across M&A, strategic growth, turnaround and restructuring situations in companies ranging from £50million to £5billion turnover. Having operated in roles across the UK, Roy recently returned to work in South Wales and is currently the CFO of Character.com, the UK’s largest licensed apparel retailer.

Angela Youngs | Partner | Maesydderwen Holiday Cottages

On relocation to South Wales 10 years ago, Angela founded Maesydderwen Holiday Cottages, with her husband. They have built a successful business with seven holiday cottages, welcoming in excess of 1000 visitors per year. She has a wealth of experience within the industry, a track record of adapting to the ever-changing environment and a good understanding of the current challenges facing the industry. Prior to this, Angela’s career commenced with eight years at Deloitte, followed by senior finance and executive roles in travel, tourism and the pharmaceutical industry. She has advised and operated across a broad spectrum of businesses from sole traders to listed companies.
