The power of mentoring

This autumn, we invite you to our in-person Women in Finance event, an evening dedicated to connection, inspiration, and professional growth.

This event will feature a thought-provoking talk on the power of mentoring, alongside an introduction to Smart Works Leeds, a charity that empowers women into employment through coaching and professional dressing.

Expect lively conversation, meaningful networking, and insights from women across the finance sector. Food and drinks will be served, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere to connect with peers and colleagues.

Whether you're looking to expand your network, explore leadership pathways, or simply be inspired — this evening is for you.

Event Information

Join our Women in Finance group for an informal coffee and networking event in Newcastle. This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow members and meet the local ICAEW team. Forge new relationships and develop existing ones, growing your professional network in a relaxed setting.

There’s no fixed agenda or specific discussion topics; the primary aim is to build professional relationships that can expand your knowledge, opportunities, and connections within the finance sector in the North East.

About the speakers

 

Session Chair

Becky Maguire FCA | A partner | Azets UK

Becky is a Partner at Azets, serving as Head of Tax for the Yorkshire Region and Leeds Office Managing Partner.

She leads the delivery of tax services to a diverse portfolio of companies, ranging from small owner-managed businesses to large international corporate groups. With the tax landscape evolving significantly in recent years, Becky’s focus is on helping businesses manage tax risk and meet compliance obligations efficiently. Recognising tax as a critical component of business strategy, she ensures that business owners are aware of key issues and equipped to navigate the complexities and challenges that arise.

Outside of work, Becky enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors—ideally in the mountains or by the sea. Cycling and walking are favourite pastimes, now often enjoyed with a young son in tow.

Claire Rollo FCA  | Director | UK National Audit Office

Claire is a Fellow Chartered Accountant, based in York. After starting her career with the National Audit Office in London, Claire returned to the North East to establish an expanded NAO office in Newcastle in 2006. Currently, Claire is responsible for the audit of the BBC Group and is the NAO’s ‘Qualified Person Responsible for Training’ for their graduate and apprentice ICAEW training schemes.

During her time at the NAO, Claire has audited most of the major departments of state and their arms length bodies, co-led the NAO’s centre of expertise for fraud and error from 2016-2021, and has undertaken a number of projects including support for pre-EU accession countries to develop their government audit functions, and developing and delivering audit and audit software support and training. Claire has been involved in people development for nearly 20 years, mentoring within and outside of the NAO, with an interest in supporting women progressing their careers.

Outside of work, Claire loves to travel, often combining that with watching sport, and likes to swim, read or enjoy a movie to relax.
