Event Information

York and North Yorkshire’s Routemap to Carbon Negative sets out the region’s plans to be net zero carbon by 2034 and carbon negative by 2040. This Routemap provides an ambitious pathway to deliver carbon reduction and harness the economic opportunities of the transition, creating jobs and attracting investment to the region. Central to this transformation are businesses, which are evolving their operations to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change. As businesses embark on their sustainability journeys, they are discovering innovative solutions that not only benefit the environment but also improve efficiency and profitability.

Drax's mission is to help meet the world’s increasing demand for secure energy, sustainably. In an effort to help meet sustainability goals, Drax has converted their power station from coal to biomass, and is now a critical source of renewable power to the UK grid and is aiming to minimise emissions across our value chain, reaching net zero by the end of 2040 and make their operations as clean as possible. Drax aims to reach net zero by the end of 2040 across their value chain and will continue to develop and evaluate options to permanently remove carbon from the atmosphere through their carbon removals projects and has already made significant progress here, cutting their total group supply chain emissions by 27% since 2020.

At this event, hear first-hand how Drax planning to integrate new-world technologies in their operations in order support sustainability efforts. Gain insights on transferable processes that can be applied to support your business and/or clients and equip yourself with the knowledge to help your business navigate the complex landscape of sustainability while achieving financial success.

About the speakers

Chris Simpson Investor Relations Manager | Drax Power Station

The name and details of all attendees are required a week in advance of our visit to relay to the Power Station. This will include shoe sizes and an indication of boiler suit size (short, medium, tall, and small, medium, large etc.)

All visitors require photographic ID on the day.

Please wear comfortable clothing, it can get rather warm out on site.

Please wear sensible shoes, we will change into safety boots for the tour as it is an operational power station, so safety is always the priority.

We will be able to provide space for luggage for any handbags.

As you approach the power station, please follow signs for the South Gatehouse. There should be signs for the car park and then head to the gatehouse (there should be a blue line to follow on the floor), they will be expecting you.
