Event Information

Our group provides an informal forum for ICAEW members to explore current and emerging technologies impacting our work today, as well as those on the horizon. Topics cover practical issues such as Excel and cloud accounting software usage, along with discussions on leading-edge automations and innovations.

Most sessions focus on current technologies, offering actionable strategies to:

  • Share productivity tips using MS Office and cloud tools
  • Discuss security best practices for online accounting systems
  • Learn about peers' experiences streamlining workflows with new software
  • Troubleshoot platform rollouts or new integrations

Additionally, as innovations like generative language models rapidly develop, we aim to demystify AI and similar tools through grounded, judgment-free debate. We welcome perspectives on how emerging assistive technologies could augment accounting roles in the future.

The group, hosted for members in the Midlands region, welcomes attendees from other regions as sessions are held online. Chaired by Daniel Clark, FCA, an experienced trainer and writer on the impact of technology on accountants' skills, and Chair of the ICAEW Tech Board.

Topics discussed in 2024 included:

  • Impact of generative AI on fraud risk and how controls need to adapt
  • Use of generative AI, a bot to assist the accountant
