Event Information

Our Women in Finance insight group offers members the opportunity to grow their professional networks, forge new business relationships, gain support from fellow professionals, and discuss & learn about key topics relevant to you, to your career, to enhancing your skillset and to improving your effectiveness as an ever-evolving finance professional.

With delegates joining from across the North West region and covering a different topic or theme of discussion each time, the group brings together female ACA/FCAs working in accountancy and finance-related roles, and from across an interesting breadth of industries, disciplines, and backgrounds, to encourage the sharing of experience, open learning, collaboration, networking, and peer-to-peer support.

Previous topics of discussion have focussed on: -

  • Shaping your career
  • What next? Career paths and making the move
  • Returning to work with confidence
  • Effective communication skills
  • Embracing change – for you and your team
  • How to be an effective & confident networker
  • Improving your productivity
  • Promotion – and how to prepare for the opportunity
  • Leadership techniques
  • Board effectiveness – and getting your voice heard
  • Managing your health, including stress management and menopause

There is no charge to attend any of the sessions and all participants are very much encouraged to take an active part in the discussions, to bring their ideas, and to contribute to the setting of topics for future sessions.

The sessions will be chaired by Nicole Blair-Porter and Amelia MacPherson.

About the chairs

Nicole Blair-Porter | Associate Director | Private Client Services team at RSM

Nicole joined the ICAEW Lancashire & South Lakeland board in May 2022, and became Chair in May 2024, having become a member of the ICAEW in 2016. Nicole is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Nicole is an Associate Director in the Private Client Services team at RSM, advising a variety of owner managed businesses and high net worth individuals, from the infancy of their business ventures through to exit planning and estate planning.

Amelia MacPherson | Chartered Accountant

Amelia is a chartered accountant with many years of audit and financial reporting experience. Skilled in advising on complex financial reporting issues, building strong stakeholder relationships, clear communication and confidently presenting to large and small audiences. Amelia has a personable approach, bringing a unique, desirable and widely sought-after persona and presence to the profession.

Laura Davis | Head of Unit Business Reporting at NatWest

I currently lead a multinational team of finance directors delivering financial reporting and control activities across NatWest Group’s legal entities and franchises, a team I set up following a finance reorganisation in 2024.

Prior to joining NatWest, I held senior finance roles at Bank of America, including as CFO of the EMEA Equities Execution Services business, and as the Financial Controller for the Banking Legal Entities in EMEA.

I hold a BSc in Accounting and Finance. I am a first time pass Chartered Accountant (ICAEW) and hold a Certificate in International Treasury Management (ACT).

I’m passionate about turning finance teams in to highly effective delivery and partnering functions. I actively seek out challenges, enjoying driving change and making a positive difference. I am fervent in supporting people to reach their full potential, and particularly those from lesser represented groups.

In my spare time, I enjoy putting my skills to use as the Treasurer and Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee for the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS), and love getting involved in Girlguiding at a grass roots level by running the Guide unit in my local village.
