About the speaker

Phillippa Ellis | Capital Law

Phillippa leads the business crime and investigations team at Capital Law.

Phillippa provides strategic counsel to public and private sector clients on complex legal matters associated with business crime and regulatory breaches.

Phillippa leads high-stakes internal investigations where there are suspicions of criminal activity or regulatory breaches. She represents individuals and corporations facing criminal investigations, offering robust defence strategies tailored to protect reputation, manage risk, and achieve the best possible legal and commercial outcomes.

Phillippa also provides advice to clients on how to manage and mitigate financial crime risks, including bribery, fraud, and money laundering, helping businesses navigate compliance obligations and protect against reputational and legal exposure. She regularly engages with law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies to navigate enforcement risks and secure optimal resolutions.

Highly experienced in all aspects of criminal litigation, Phillippa is a specialist in criminal law as both a barrister and a solicitor. She previously led complex financial and economic crime investigations at the Serious Fraud Office (SFO).

Dr Jared Davies | University of South Wales

Jared is an ICAEW Chartered Accountant and University Academic. He is currently the Head of Subject for Accounting & Finance at the University of South Wales and was the ICAEW South Wales District Society President 2022-23. Jared is a tutor with over 2 decades’ experience of teaching students to pass professional accountancy exams, and he has spoken at various CPD events in recent years on the topics of Financial Reporting and Sustainability. He is also a passionate advocate of careers in accountancy. Jared holds a PhD focused on Sustainability Accounting from Kings College, London.

Dr Barrie Kennard | Head of Professional Practice | Call of the Wild

Barrie spent 6 years as Chief Executive of the Centre for Excellence in Leadership & Management development. Experienced business leader/manager across several sectors. Delivers workshops/speeches/presentations at events across the UK.

Doctoral research into Modern Apprenticeships with an interest in work-based learning. External examiner on WBL programmes in Cardiff Metropolitan University and Cornwall College, Chief External in Bradford College Business School

Leighton Reed | Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant

Leighton is a qualified Chartered Tax Advisor and Chartered Accountant who has held the position as tax partner for almost 20 years. He is a specialist in corporate and personal tax matters, and regularly provides tax advice on corporate structures, succession planning, employee share incentives, inheritance tax and business acquisitions and disposals.

As well as vast experience on UK and International tax matters, Leighton offers extensive commercial experience gathered from working with blue chip clients and complex family company structures.

He is able to communicate tax in a way that people understand.
