Event Information

Our Women in Finance insight group offers members the opportunity to grow their professional networks, forge new business relationships, gain support from fellow professionals, and discuss and learn about key topics relevant to you, to your career, to enhancing your skillset, and to improving your effectiveness as an ever-evolving finance professional.

Topic of discussion: Personal resilience | The art of self-care and being an effective manager of yourself

How well do you look after your own self-care day-to-day? In today’s world of increasing demands, cost pressures, and less time to do more, the one area that we can neglect is to effectively look after ourselves. This interactive session helps provide practical tools and top tips to help you be the best version of yourselves as role models, at home, in work, and for yourselves. Following the event, there will also be a 'Self-Care Wheel' template circulated so you can do a personal review of where you are, what is working well, and reflect on what areas may benefit from increased focus.

With delegates joining from across the South West region and covering a different topic or theme of discussion each time, the group brings together female ACA/FCAs working in accountancy and finance-related roles, and from across an interesting breadth of industries, disciplines, and backgrounds, to encourage the sharing of experience, open learning, collaboration, networking, and peer-to-peer support.

Previous topics of discussion have focussed on: -

  • Shaping your career
  • What next? Career paths and making the move
  • Returning to work with confidence
  • Effective communication skills
  • Embracing change – for you and your team
  • How to be an effective & confident networker
  • Improving your productivity
  • Promotion – and how to prepare for the opportunity
  • Leadership techniques
  • Board effectiveness – and getting your voice heard
  • Managing your health, including stress management and menopause

There is no charge to attend any of the sessions and all participants are very much encouraged to take an active part in the discussions, to bring their ideas, and to contribute to the setting of topics for future sessions.

Lynn Mead FCPFA

Lynn is a dynamic, curious and highly competent coach, trainer, speaker and consultant with over 35 years of Public Sector experience, 21 of these in a senior financial and management consultancy capacity. These have focussed on delivering a range of strategic and high impact projects. Lynn is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA).

Lynn has extensive experience within local government (County, Unitary and District Councils), working across most departments, as well as a Russell Group University. Lynn works effectively across all levels and types of organisations from national, regional to local, including the National Health Service (NHS), and with all levels of stakeholders from Directors to service users. She particularly enjoys partnership working, and strongly believes in the voice of service users.

Lynn’s superpower is her ability to build strong relationships and trust. She brings a clarity and focus to complex problem solving with the ability to effectively define the strategic vision and understand the operational detail. She has strong critical thinking and analytical skills. Lynn’s energy comes from working with people. She is known for delivering to requirements.

A key example of collaboration, critical thinking and delivery was during COVID. She delivered successful programme management, working to the Chief Operating Officer and with the Professional Services leadership team at the University of Southampton. In three months, the programme effectively delivered a COVID-secure return to campus for 22,000 students and 6,000 staff from September 2020 all whilst working from home, and within a new organisation.

Lynn leads with energy and enthusiasm. She brings collaboration, is dynamic, quick-thinking and very adaptable. She is confident presenting to one person, a team or full conference. She delivers training in a broad range of business and management topics, communications and relationship building and career transition. Lynn is also an Associate Tutor for Level 7 Senior Leader Apprentices.

Lynn has always prioritised professional learning and development. She completed the Hampshire County Council (HCC) Future Leaders programme. She mentored CIPFA students at HCC. She is a qualified Personal Performance Life Coach, DISC personality profiling accredited, and a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner. She is a member of the International Coaching Federation and the Professional Speaking Association.

Lynn set up her own coaching, training and speaking business Dynamic Finance Limited in 2022. Since May 2023 she has supported 616 Armed Forces service leavers to move forward with more confidence in their resettlement journey facilitating 26 three-day Career Transition Workshops and 205 one-to-one career consultations. Lynn is a proud signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant.

Lynn delivers powerful professional speaking in self-leadership, personal development and wellbeing areas. Her style is practical, interactive and engaging with repeatedly excellent audience feedback. Topics include active listening to build trust, personal resilience and the art of self-care and ‘What about me? The human side of change’ and DISC relationship building and communications.

Lynn’s testimonials and feedback demonstrate that she builds confidence, and is a supportive, empathic, calm, motivational, curious, and inspirational coach, trainer and professional speaker.
