About the speakers

Dr Iain McGregor, Director of Innovation and Resources at GIAA - Government Internal Audit Agency
Iain is the Director of Innovation and Resources at the UK Government Internal Audit Agency. He leads the strategy on Innovation including the application of data analytics and AI to internal audit and counter fraud and investigation activities. He previously worked at the Knowledge Transfer Network, Tata Steel, Lotus Engineering, ABB Rail Vehicles and Alcan International. He studied aeronautical engineering at Glasgow University and obtained a PhD in advanced materials working with Westland Helicopters.

Carolyn Clarke, Subject matter expert, Internal Audit Community
A former Partner with PwC, Carolyn Clarke combines almost 20 years of experience as an auditor and advisor to a wide range of organisations, with in-house experience as a FTSE 30 Head of Audit, Risk and Control and member of the Senior Leadership Team. Carolyn believes all organisations are strongest with a clear purpose, that purpose needs to be delivered on for the benefit of all stakeholders. This requires clarity, transparency, trust and confidence.

Riaan Thiart, Managing Director, Prelude Business Solutions
Riaan is a Certified Internal Auditor and governance expert with 23 years of experience in internal audit leadership across South Africa, the UK, and Europe. He now offers consulting in governance, risk management, and internal control, and performs interim audit leadership roles and EQAs. An early adopter of audit technology, Riaan advises on optimising audit tech and data analytics, and is a member of EQA panels for CIIA and IFACI Certifications. He believes in leveraging AI and data analytics to enhance audit outcomes and governance insights.

Aaron Altrock, Head of IT Audit, Wise
Aaron is currently the Head of IT Audit at Wise - a global technology company for international money transfers. He has over 17 years of internal audit experience across different disciplines, with a focus on technology risks, data analytics, and automation. For the past seven years, he has specialised in the financial services sector, spanning traditional institutions and FinTechs. With CISSP and ACMA, plus two master's degrees in engineering and data science, he offers a blend of technical expertise and audit experience to drive transformation in internal audit. Aaron has held management and hands-on roles in development and operations of innovative data analytics and automation solutions as a product owner, directly contributing to major organisational change, enhanced assurance, and operational efficiency.

Peter Tansley, Director of Audit and Assurance, BBC
Peter is the Director of Internal Audit and Assurance for the BBC. He is also a Board member and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee at De Montfort University. His first senior audit role was nearly 25 years ago as Head of Audit for TUI PLC, where he inherited a single departmental laptop and a storeroom full of hard copy working papers. Since then he has implemented audit automation systems, data analytics and championed audit IT literacy at a number of high-profile organisations. More recently he has been actively trialling the use of AI within BBC Internal Audit in collaboration with a Big 4 firm. a single departmental laptop and a storeroom full of hard copy working papers. Since then he has implemented audit automation systems, data analytics and championed audit IT literacy at a number of high-profile organisations. More recently he has been actively trialling the use of AI within BBC Internal Audit in collaboration with a Big 4 firm.
