About the speakers

Priyanka Kishore

Priyanka Kishore, Director and Principal Economist, Asia Decoded

Asia Decoded is a macro consultancy which provides advisory services to corporates, think tanks, institutional investors, and policy makers. Asia Decoded is also a strategic partner of ICAEW that develops the bi-annual economic report covering Mainland China, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Priyanka has two decades of experience in macroeconomic research across Asia, her expertise is in analysing long-term economic trends, trade impacts, global value chains, debt sustainability and green transition. She is a columnist for the Nikkei Asia Review and makes regular appearances on major media outlets.

Previously, she was the Chief India and Southeast Asia Economist for Oxford Economics and prior to that, senior economist and strategist in the banking sector.

Shariq Barmaky

Shariq Barmaky, Country Managing Partner, Deloitte Singapore

Shariq is the Country Managing Partner of Deloitte Singapore. He has more than 30 years of experience in public accounting in the United Kingdom and Singapore. He has extensive experience in the audits of multinational and local companies in various industries and has been involved in due diligence and public listings of equities and commercial paper.

As the Deloitte Southeast Asia Audit & Assurance Leader from June 2016 to May 2023, Shariq was responsible for the overall audit and assurance business within the 10 ASEAN countries including Singapore.

Shariq is on the boards of the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), Civil Service College, Workforce Singapore and Shared Services for Charities as well as various committees in these organisations. He was also Vice President of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA).

Alex Holmes

Alex Holmes, Regional Director, Economist Intelligence

Alex Holmes heads up EIU’s analysis and forecasts for Asia Pacific markets and is based in Singapore. His career to date has been focused on macroeconomic research, both deep country-level analysis and delving into the cross-cutting themes affecting Asia.

Being in a region where external trade plays such an oversized role in the economy, Alex takes a particular interest in related issues, including structural supply chain reconfiguration and models of export-led development. Alex regularly appears in the media and has also co-hosted a business video-podcast produced by Bloomberg.

Prior to the EIU, Alex was Lead Economist at Oxford Economics, following stints at Capital Economics, ICAP, Barclays Bank and the UK Government Economics Service. He holds a BSc in economics from the University of Sheffield and an MSc in financial economics from the University of London.
