Employment taxes update

Suggested audience: Practice (business members for a refresher)

This session will bring those working in employment tax up to date for the end of the 2024-25 tax year and the start of the new year. Content will include updates on changes made mid year in 2024 and announcements for the coming year, together with areas where advice may usefully be given to clients.

  • Changes in tax and NIC for the new tax year; reviewing in-year changes in 2024-25 to ensure actioned correctly; new processes to implement; update on relief for former service personnel.
  • Minimum wage rates for 2025-26; update on compliance issues.
  • Changes to the taxation of benefits in kind in the last 2 years; P11D issues to watch for this year, including interest on director loans; Payrolling benefits mandation – action to take this year.
  • Developments in other reporting areas – including hours worked requirement.
  • Employee expenses – refresher on the taxation of expense payments and claims and key compliance areas to watch; changes to tax treatment of certain expense claims; new processes for employees to claim expenses from Winter 2024.
  • Any other relevant issues developing.

Suitable for: Any staff dealing with payroll, whether working in practice or business. The course will also be suitable for those who supervise payroll work while not being directly involved in the day to day running of payroll.

CPD hours: ICAEW's revised Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Regulations bring in new CPD requirements. This includes a minimum number of hours and an ethics requirement. Attending this webinar could contribute up to 2 hours 10 minutes of verifiable CPD, providing you can demonstrate that the content is relevant to your role. A copy of the webinar booking confirmation email is accepted as evidence of verifiable CPD. You will need to save the email as a JPEG or PDF before uploading it to your record. Rebecca Benneyworth MBE, BSc, FCA
Rebecca is a chartered accountant with over 35 years experience in practice. She is a writer and consultant on a variety of taxes, and lectures throughout the UK to professionals. She works closely with HMRC on the Making Tax Digital project; and is chair of the Digital Advisory Group; she also sits on HMRC’s Administrative Burdens Advisory Board. Rebecca is a past chair of the ICAEW Tax Faculty, and was named Best Tax Lecturer at the Lexis Nexis Taxation Awards. Rebecca was awarded an MBE for services to the tax profession in 2012. Rebecca will lead our tax programme supported by a team of industry experts.

How are the courses delivered?
All the Essentials CPD courses are run by live webinar on Zoom. Once the live date has passed the courses are available as on demand recordings.

What is the total running time of theses courses?
Total running time for the live webinars are 2 hours and 20 minutes.
The live webinars are split into two 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute comfort break in between and ending with a 30 minute Q&A session with the speaker.

How do I attend a live webinar?
Once you've booked on you will receive an email with your booking confirmation, one week before the live event you will receive the zoom registration link and further joining instructions.

How do I access the course slide deck?
The course slide deck will be shared a few days before the course date.

What if I miss the live date?
The live webinar will be recorded and offered as an on-demand recording within 24-48 hours of the live session finishing.

Can I watch the recording after attending the live course?
No, delegates can either attend the live session OR have access to the on demand recording, not both.

Do the courses on this programme count as verifiable CPD?
Yes these courses contribute to 2 hours 10 minutes of verifiable CPD, so long as you can demonstrate that the content is relevant to your role.

Can I share the links and watch the courses with a colleague?
One booking allows for one delegate to attend or watch the on demand recording.
Sharing of course links is strictly prohibited and we
reserve the right to charge you for any un-authorised access to the Webinar.
