Event information

Public sector NEDs sit on the board of central government departments, their arms-length bodies, local authorities, and other entities across the public sector. They play a pivotal role in ensuring good governance, they provide leadership and guidance to management, and they scrutinise and challenge policy, strategy, and operational performance. They are also a vital tool in holding senior leaders to account and represent public bodies to ministers, parliamentarians, stakeholders and the wider public.

Chartered accountants possess many of the skills required to be an effective NED within the public sector. They are able to act with integrity and objectivity, to apply professional scepticism, and have levels of financial expertise that enable effective decision making - therefore making them an ideal candidate to sit on a public sector board.

In this webinar we will hear from government teams who will explain the public sector appointments process and provide a greater understanding for attendees as to what the process entails. The webinar will also highlight what skills a typical role might be looking for and identify where to find NED roles across government and the wider public sector.

Key benefits

  • Demystify the public sector appointments process.
  • Identify where to find public sector NED roles.
  • Understand the skills required to be an effective public sector NED.
