Event information

Tax advisers play an important role in the tax system, from ensuring that their client/employer pays the correct amount of tax on time to advising businesses and individuals on important decisions. The role of the tax adviser is wide and varied. ICAEW members that specialise in tax work in practice, in industry and for HMRC, performing a range of tasks and dealing with businesses of all sizes.

The role of the tax adviser has evolved over time and it will continue to respond to the opportunities and challenges presented by developments. Looking ahead, these may include:

  • further digitalisation of the tax system;
  • growing awareness and use of AI; and
  • increased regulation of the tax profession.

The panellists will explore the role of the tax adviser in the future from a variety of perspectives. The intention is to have a diverse panel that includes tax advisers working in practice and industry; a panellist to provide an international perspective and a representative from HMRC. Each panellist will deliver a presentation lasting no more than 10 minutes. There will be a panel session with the opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

We are not planning to record the symposium. However, we will provide a summary in our monthly TAXline magazine.

Purpose

  • Demonstrate the ongoing value of the tax adviser to individual taxpayers, businesses and the tax system.
  • Explore the changing environment to stimulate discussion and help members prepare.
  • Promote attractiveness of the profession and strengthen trust in ICAEW.
