About the speaker

Robert Rome, Director of Commercial, Customer & Regulation, National Grid Interconnectors
Rob is Director of Commercial, Customer & Regulation within National Grid Ventures Interconnectors business. He is also Director for National Grid Interconnectors Ltd, National Grid IFA2 Ltd, National Grid NSL Ltd and National Grid Viking Ltd. He is accountable for commercial strategy for the UJV interconnectors (IFA, IFA2, NSL and Viking Link), including developing and optimising products, services and hedging strategies. Rob leads all aspects of commercial and regulatory interfaces for NG Interconnectors, working with partners, regulators, ESO and wider stakeholders with a focus on improving policy and market arrangements. He is accountable for NG Interconnectors customer portfolio and strategy, the communications and marketing around this, and the senior relationships with customers. Rob started his career in 1997 with National Grid on their graduate scheme and from 2000 to 2016 in senior roles in the energy industry (Generation, Retail, New Build, Trading, Modelling, Analysis and Risk) prior to re-joining the National Grid Electricity System Operator (ESO) in 2016. Prior to joining NGV in May 2023, Rob led the ESO’s Control Centre through the difficult winter of 2020/21 prior to leading the ESO’s Balancing Programme - a £200m project to transform the ESO’s Control Centre IT capabilities. He holds an Electrical Engineering Degree from Strathclyde University and an MBA from Manchester Business School.
