The case for EQ in finance
Build understanding to strengthen performance, influence, and professional presence.

• Why EQ matters in finance leadership - discover how emotional intelligence drives performance, influence, and resilience in professional environments.
• The neuroscience of EQ – learn what happens in your brain under stress and how awareness can help you respond more effectively.

Understanding yourself under pressure
Turn insight into resilience, confidence, and professional impact.

• Identifying your emotional patterns – understand your default responses and triggers in high-stakes finance situations and how they influence decisions, relationships, and credibility.
• Managing stress and pressure – techniques to stay composed and resourceful when the stakes are high.
• Perfectionism and imposter syndrome in finance roles – explore the psychology behind common pressures and develop strategies to maintain confidence and presence.
• Translating awareness into action – practical ways to adjust behaviours, boost credibility, and enhance influence in day-to-day professional interactions.

Applying EQ to influencing and collaboration
Develop the skills to manage yourself and others effectively in high-stakes situations.

• Empathy in action – learn how to connect with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders without compromising standards. Experiment with listening, perspective-taking, and responses to different behavioural styles.
• Understanding others’ motivations – use key insights from behavioural frameworks (e.g., SCARF) to anticipate reactions and strengthen influence in day-to-day decisions.
• Managing conflict constructively – explore how to navigate disagreements in finance environments, separating intent from impact, and preserving credibility and trust.

Embedding EQ for lasting impact
Consolidate learning, create a personal plan, and commit to action.

• Reflection on key insights – consolidate your EQ learning, highlight your most effective behaviours, and define focus areas for growth.
• Action planning – choose three EQ behaviours to implement immediately in your work.
• Accountability for progress – set a 30-day practice commitment to embed new habits and strengthen your professional impact.

Jo has over 20 years’ experience in senior leadership roles, managing large, complex teams and client portfolios at board level. While Jo’s early career was in advertising and communications, what Jo found most rewarding was developing people and helping them perform at their best – a focus that led Jo into coaching, leadership development, and training where she became a specialist in creating high performance cultures where individuals and businesses thrive together.

Jo now coaches and runs training for senior leaders, regularly working with Finance Directors, CFOs, and other commercial leaders navigating complex, high-pressure environments. Jo’s work helps leaders access their strengths, sharpen emotional intelligence (EQ), foster psychological safety, and make values-aligned decisions.
Jo draws on neuroscience to help leaders respond rather than react, leaving them with clarity, confidence, and practical next steps to lead effectively.

Jo holds the Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) credential, and is a certified EQ practitioner, and an active member of the International Coach Federation, holding PCC status.

When Jo is not working, you’ll find Jo running through the woods with her wayward border collie or swimming in a pond.
