Description

As a result of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act there is now a Failure to Prevent Fraud offence in place. While this offence only applies in law to ‘large companies’, it is also likely to have some impact on a range of different sized businesses due to their roles in supply chains.

About the speakers

Mike Miller, Economic Crime Manager, ICAEW
Mike joined ICAEW in 2022. He leads the ICAEW Economic Crime programme, ensuring that members' interests are effectively represented through policy consultations, thought leadership and active engagement with key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

Colin Pickard, MLRO and Regulatory Risk Director, EY
Colin has been working in the field of prevention and detection of crime for 40 years. Initially as a police officer, then as a commercial fraud investigator, before developing and operating first line financial crime controls at an international bank. He moved into consulting for a few years before becoming the director of financial crime risk and MLRO at EY LLP in 2017. He is now also a Fellow if the International Compliance Association.

 

Penny Dunbabin, Home Office
Penny has spent most of her career in the energy sector, but during the pandemic, she was seconded to the Companies House reform team within the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy. Penny joined the Home Office’s Fraud Policy Unit in September 2023 and her first task was to work on developing the guidance for the offence of failure to prevent fraud. Penny is now working on policy to protect businesses from fraud.
