About the speakers

Dr Kim Johnston | Regional Director | ICAEW North East, Scotland, Yorkshire & the Humber

Kim brings extensive experience in commercial business development across private, public, and charitable sectors. Previously, she held leadership roles in telecommunications, including Chief Commercial Officer at MS3 Networks and Regional Partnership Director at CityFibre.

Emma Rawson FCA | Director of Public Policy | Association of Tax Technicians ATT

Emma is Director of Public Policy at the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), leading their tax technical and professional standards work.

She heads up the ATT’s engagement with HMRC on Making Tax Digital, has presented numerous webinars and talks on the subject, and is the author of Bloomsbury Professional’s Making Tax Digital Tracker.

Emma strongly believes in sharing her knowledge about and love of tax with others. She presents talks and webinars around the country, writes articles for leading publications and has appeared on Local and National Radio and Television to discuss tax issues. She has also provided oral evidence to committees of both the House of Lords and House of Commons.

Emma is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW). She is also a former Chair of the Leeds Branch of the ATT/CIOT.

Jags Sanghera | Counter Fraud Coordinator | Yorkshire & Humber Economic Crime Unit

Jags Sanghera brings five years of experience in policing and currently leads the Prevent and Protect team within the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Economic Crime Unit. In this role, Jags plays a key part in the strategic prevention and detection of fraud-related offences, working collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies, and partner organisations to coordinate and implement counter fraud strategies, identify vulnerabilities, and support investigations.

Before joining the Economic Crime Unit, Jags was a member of the regional cyber-crime team, where they worked with small to medium-sized enterprises, charities, and academic institutions to raise awareness of cyber threats and deliver tailored advice and support services.

Simone Taylor-Allkins | Technical Advisory Services Manager | ICAEW

After qualifying with a top 20 firm, Simone moved to Grant Thornton and worked with a diverse portfolio of manager owned business’ in a varied role covering both audit engagements and management accountancy engagements. After 18 months in the audit and assurance team, she transferred to their national training centre in High Wycombe to train audit trainees for the firm.

From 2007 to 2010, she decided to apply her skills to the education of non-financial managers working as a freelance finance trainer for worldwide blue-chip companies.

This eventually led her back to her technical roots in July 2010, joining the ICAEW Technical Advisory Service, helping fellow chartered accountants make sense of accountancy, audit, company law, anti-money laundering and ethical regulations.  

Gareth Winters | Stakeholder Engagement Officer | CABA

Gareth joined caba in 2019 and is part of the stakeholder engagement team, responsible for building and developing new and existing relationships with firms, businesses and the ICAEW. Gareth is also responsible for delivering presentations, raising awareness of the support available to ACA students/members and their close family.

Alison Lambert | HR Consultant | The HR Guru

Alison is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and the founder of The HR Guru Ltd, established in 2023 to provide practical, no-nonsense people support to SMEs and startups.

Based in East Yorkshire and working across the UK and internationally, Alison has held senior HR roles with organisations including Smith & Nephew, Centrica, Drax, Giacom and Willerby Ltd. She also led the global people function for a fast-growing tech scale-up operating in 35 countries, playing a key role in its growth from Series A to Series B.

With over 27 years’ experience, Alison is a highly accomplished HR generalist, with particular expertise in global expansion, start-ups and scale-ups, and talent management.

Since launching The HR Guru Ltd, Alison has built a team of four and supported over 100 organisations with their people strategies, both in the UK and globally.
