ICAEW Sydney City Group welcomes Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist for Australia, New Zealand and Global Commodities at HSBC.

A highly respected economist, named AFR’s most accurate Australian forecaster in 2024, Paul brings deep insight, practical clarity, and a no-jargon approach to understanding macroeconomic trends.

At this event, he will guide us through the currents of global turbulence and what it all means for Australia’s productivity, policies, and future growth.

About the speakers

 

Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist, Australia, New Zealand and Global Commodities at HSBC

Paul Bloxham is Chief Economist for Australia, New Zealand and Global Commodities and a Managing Director at HSBC Global Research.

In this role, he leads HSBC’s forecasts on economic trends in ANZ and across global commodity markets, drawing on insights from the bank’s network of over 500 analysts across 87 markets.

Recognised as the Australian Financial Review’s most accurate forecaster of the Australian economy for 2024, Bloxham’s track record of prediction spans rate moves and broader economic shifts.

His team has also been awarded accolades from Focus Economics in 2023 (New Zealand) and 2024 (Australia), as well as by Consensus Economics back in 2021.

Prior to joining HSBC in 2010, Paul spent 12 years at the Reserve Bank of Australia, honing expertise in international economics, domestic forecasting, and financial conditions.

He holds a Master’s in Public Financial Policy from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Economics from Curtin University.

Beyond his institutional role, Paul is an Adjunct Professor at Curtin University, a frequent commentator on business media, and a sought-after op-ed contributor to Australian newspapers.
