Course overview:

IFRS 9 Financial Instruments (effective for periods beginning on or after 1 January 2018) has been a significant change to the accounting for financial instruments. The standard had a significant impact on financial statements of financial institutions as well as the systems and processes required to capture the information to comply with the standard. It is now important that users of financial statements understand the commercial impact of adopting the standard.

This course will explore the main areas of IFRS 9 in a practical and interactive way to ensure that you not only understand the accounting but are able to analyse the impact and key risks for your organisation.

Our training courses are designed to be hands on and interactive, therefore we limit delegate places to a maximum of 16 to allow you to get the most out of your learning and training with us.

Learning outcomes:

  • IFRS 9 transition options and impact
  • Understand the recognition and measurement methods
  • Analyse the business model approach
  • Treatment of embedded derivatives
  • Analyse the expected credit loss model
  • Overview of hedge accounting guidelines
  • Disclosures

Who should attend?

Relevant for those working in financial institutions, who have not been involved in IFRS 9, but will gain from a broader understanding.

Capability Framework 2+3+4

Our public course programme is deliberately structured to encourage delegates from different organisations to participate. However, if you have six or more delegates who require development in the same area, we are able to run a more cost-effective and much wider range of courses tailored specifically to your organisation.

These are ideal for organisations seeking hassle-free, flexible and cost-effective training delivered to multiple delegates at your location of choice. Whether we use our existing materials or develop new content for your business, our expertise lies in translating your requirements into a pragmatic, interactive training programme highly relevant to your people and organisation.

To discuss in-house training for your business please email Academy or call Serena Starr on +44 (0)20 7920 8868 or Louise Thomas on +44 (0)20 7920 8733.

"The team at ICAEW were excellent from the start. They took time to understand our strategic plan and growth aspirations and built a programme around this. We are starting to see the fruits of it already. One of the key factors in the programme's success is that each participant is given one-to-one coaching, enabling them to focus on their own development." Richard Baker, Partner, Crowe Clark Whitehill
